Felda United vow to push JDT all the way in 2016 MSL title run in

Felda United
Felda United could keep top striker Francis Forkey Doe, centre, in cotton wool ahead of the MSL showdown with JDT.

Felda United are planning to rest and rotate players in their next two matches, in preparation for their Malaysia Super League (MSL) showdown against champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) on Aug. 24.

The Fighters host JDT at the Stadium Tun Abdul Razak in Jengka in what some observers are billing as the title decider. Felda trail the Johor club by four points, with five games remaining, starting with Tuesday's trip to Kuantan to face Pahang.

But Felda coach Irfan Bakti admits he will select his team for the game against the Elephants -- and Saturday's Malaysia Cup tie against Negeri Sembilan -- with one eye on the Southern Tigers.

"JDT is the big game for us," Irfan told The Star. "No disrespect to Pahang, but we need to be fully prepared to take on JDT next week.

"We still need to get the job done to take the three points in Kuantan. Pahang are desperate for points and will be dangerous, so there is no room for complacency."

Irfan will need to ensure that his MSL top scorer Francis Forkey Doe -- he leads the charts with 14 league goals -- is fresh to take on the might of JDT in eight days' time.

ESPN FC's Jason Dasey gives a behind-the-scenes look at all the drama both on and off the pitch at the 2016 Malaysia Charity Shield.

Already, Irfan could be without talented Uzbekistan midfielder Lutfulla Turaev, who suffered a knee injury in Felda's 1-0 win over Melaka United in the Malaysia Cup on July 29.

"All my import players will be rested [against Negeri] as I want them fresh and ready to face JDT next week," he said.

"We have five games to go in the Super League. We are not giving up on the league title, yet. We will push JDT all the way."

Felda are already through to the quarterfinals of the Malaysia Cup after their wins last week over Melaka United and Terengganu.

With qualification guaranteed, Irfan revealed that he will play a largely second string side in the Negeri game in Seremban on Friday night.
