A-League winning coach Mike Mulvey 'rested' by Terengganu in Malaysia

Terengganu FA are on the hunt for their third head coach of the 2016 Malaysia Super League (MSL) season after "resting" ex-Brisbane Roar boss Mike Mulvey in the wake of their second consecutive defeat, including a 6-1 home thrashing at the hands of East Coast rivals Kelantan.

The Turtles, who rested previous coach Ahmad Yusof earlier in the season after he oversaw a run of two defeats in three games, have installed assistant manager Mustaffa Kamal as interim boss ahead of the away trip to Felda United in the Malaysia Cup on Wednesday.

Terengganu FA president Wan Ahmad Nizam has also promised to resign if the team fail to make the Malaysia Cup quarterfinals.

Manchester-born Mulvey, who was promoted to head coach from his assistant role after Yusof's exit, previously worked in Malaysia at second tier Sabah FA as technical director and head coach in 2015.

Former A-League coach Mike Mulvey, left, has been rested by Terengganu.

But he is best known for his success with Brisbane Roar, including victory over Western Sydney Wanderers in the 2014 Grand Final having earlier won the 2014 Premier's Plate with the Queensland club.

He was also caretaker boss of the now defunct Gold Coast United in 2012 and assistant coach of the Australia Under-20 side between 2007-09.

Mulvey is the seventh coach to be "rested" in the Malaysian Super League (MSL) this season.

He follows Terengganu's Yusof, Ahmad Shahruddin Rosdi (Pahang), Jacksen Tiago (Penang), K. Rajagobal (Sarawak), K. Devan (Kelantan) and Perak's Syamsul Saad.

Inconsistent Terengganu currently lie seventh in the MSL on 16 points, with five wins and seven defeats.
