Leading players unveil the Delta Hyperseam ball ahead of the 2016 S.League season.

The preseason buzz around the 2016 Great Eastern Yeo's S.League season has gone up a notch with the unveiling of the new official ball.

After a 15-year collaboration with Mikasa, Singapore's premium football competition decided to go with the new sponsors, Mitre. A five-year deal sees the introduction of the Delta Hyperseam ball, which is used in England's Football League Championship and the Scottish Premier League.

This agreement will see Mitre provide official match balls and products for all S.League fixtures and also any game organised by the Football Association of Singapore (FAS), including lower-tier fixtures.

"For the next five years, anybody who participates in just about any match organised by the FAS will be playing with a Mitre ball," said Mr Lim Kia Tong, FAS Vice President.

"We could not be happier, because they will be in good company -- our S.League players will be using exactly the same ball as League Championship players -- the Mitre Delta Hyperseam."

Alfred Toh, General Manager of Teamwork Sports LLP, which is Mitre's licensee for Singapore and Malaysia, added that the new ball could help raise local football standards across the board.

"Football is proven as the number one sport, and the S.League provides us with a new platform to demonstrate the technological advancement of our products while encouraging purchase amongst amateur players and fans," he said.

"Mitre is dedicated to being at the heart of football and improving the quality of play at every level."

The new ball generated positive feedback from players, including Geylang International midfielder Gabriel Quak.

"It feels good when you strike through and I am sure we will see plenty of goals this season," Quak said. "All the teams have strengthened for the upcoming campaign and together with this new official ball, things are looking bright for the S.League."

The 2016 S.League campaign will kick off on Feb. 13 when Singapore Cup winners Albirex Niigata (S) takes on league champions Brunei DPMM FC in the charity shield which will also act as the opening game for the season.
