New Singapore coach V. Sundramoorthy will get his first chance to see his charges in match action later this week when they head to Myanmar to participate in the inaugural AYA Bank Cup.

The 50-year-old, who was last Friday unveiled as the caretaker coach of the Lions on a one-year deal, has spent the last four days working with his players as they build towards the end-of-year ASEAN Football Federation Suzuki Cup, which will be co-hosted by Myanmar and Philippines.

Safiq Rahim is on course to make a return from injury for Malaysia's games against Timor-Leste.

Malaysia captain Safiq Rahim has resumed training after a thigh injury and hopes to be available for Thursday's AFC Asian Cup playoff against Timor-Leste.

The first leg at Larkin Stadium will be followed by the second leg on Monday night at the same venue, with a place in the third round of qualifying for UAE 2019 at stake.

Safiq missed the 0-0 draw against Myanmar in Yangon on Saturday night as Malaysia once again lacked penetration.

For the past 12 months or so, South Korea have been the best team in Asia. Their record since losing the final of the 2015 Asian Cup to Australia in Sydney is impressive: 15 games played, 12 games won, 3 draws, 41 goals scored and just 2 conceded.

That sequence has taken the team through to the final round of qualification for the 2018 World Cup. But the streak is at serious risk this Wednesday, with a game against Spain and another four days later against the Czech Republic.

Utility player Junior Eldstal says that Malaysia must put aside any complacency in the upcoming AFC Asian Cup playoff against Timor-Leste after Saturday night's disappointing goalless draw against Myanmar in a friendly.

They will face the Timorese on June 2 and 6 over two legs. Both games will be played at Larkin Stadium in Johor, which will give the Malaysians a huge advantage.

But Junior warned that the visitors are capable of springing a surprise, just as they did in AFC World Cup qualifying...

Philippines outfit Ceres La Salle progressed into the 2016 Singapore Cup quarterfinals after overcoming Garena Young Lions 3-1 in extra time at Jalan Besar Stadium on Sunday night.

Ceres had taken the lead through Stephan Schrock in the first half, but the Young Lions pushed the game into 120 minutes via Joshua Pereira's late equaliser.

However, Ceres were to emerge victorious with captain Kim Sang Min and Schrock scoring in extra time to break the Young Lions' hearts.

The league leaders' form is stuttering but, most importantly, they are still winning, as second-placed Bangkok United continue to match them.
