Man City, Pep Guardiola aiming to avoid third straight defeat vs. Chelsea

Alison Bender and Don Hutchison look ahead to Chelsea's clash with Manchester City.

Manchester City will take their 14-game Premier League unbeaten run into Stamford Bridge on Saturday to face Chelsea -- the last team to hand them a defeat.

That loss, 2-1 in London on April 5, was the only one City have suffered in their last 23 Premier League games. They have won 11 games and drawn three since, are unbeaten in nine games this season in all competitions and have outscored their last three Premier League opponents 16-0.

Chelsea, the defending champions, have lost only one of their last seven Premier League games against City at Stamford Bridge -- a 3-0 defeat on April 16, 2016. They were the only team to win both league meetings with City last season.

Manchester City have a 38 percent chance of winning, according to ESPN's Soccer Power Index.

Pep Guardiola has only guided his side to a victory against Chelsea once in seven meetings with the club -- the Super Cup in 2013, when Bayern Munich won on penalties.

He has also only lost three consecutive games against one opponent once before. That was against Real Madrid, who won one game versus Guardiola's Barcelona in La Liga and twice against Bayern in the Champions League.

City's Sergio Aguero, who was set to enter Saturday with a chance to match Eric Brook's club record of 177 goals, is not expected to play after sustaining injuries in a car crash in Amsterdam on Thursday night.

Aguero has scored six goals this season, equalling Manchester United's Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea's Alvaro Morata for the most in the Premier League, and has scored five goals in his last three league games.

Only Robin van Persie, who scored six times, had more career away goals than Aguero at Stamford Bridge. Aguero also remains one goal shy of matching Van Persie's record of scoring in nine consecutive away starts.

Sergio Aguero remains one goal shy of matching Eric Brook's club scoring record.

City have scored 21 Premier League goals this season, and only two teams -- Newcastle United in 1994-95 and Manchester United in 2011-12, each of whom scored 22 goals -- have scored more frequently in their first six league games.

Morata, who had a hat trick in the 4-0 victory at Stoke City last weekend, joined Chelsea in July on a transfer from Real Madrid. He did not score his sixth league goal last season until Jan. 29.

Chelsea, who lost at home to Burnley on the opening day, are unbeaten over their last five Premier League games.
