Giovinco bags a brace in Montreal, stays second in Audi Player Index

Sebastian Giovinco scored twice, including another free-kick strike, to lead Toronto past rivals Montreal.

Toronto FC forward Sebastian Giovinco scored twice in a 3-1 win over Montreal, his 14th and 15th goals of the season, to move into a tie for fourth-most in MLS.

Giovinco is second in this season's Audi Player Index, behind New York City FC's David Villa.

Sunday was the fifth multi-goal game of the season for Giovinco, snapping a tie for the most in the league. Villa, Ignacio Piatti and Nemanja Nikolic are tied for second with four multi-goal games each.

Sebastian Giovinco scored his fifth multi-goal game of the season in Toronto's win at Montreal on Sunday.

Toronto improved to 9-0-1 this season when Giovinco scores. Sunday's win was the club's 16th of the season, the most in franchise history.

His first goal came off a direct free kick, his fifth such goal this season. No other MLS player has scored more than twice off direct free kicks in 2017.

It was Giovinco's 12th career goal off a direct free kick, the most by any MLS player since the league began tracking goal types in 2003.
