David Villa leads NYCFC to derby win to stay on top of Audi Player Index

NYCFC picked up just their second ever win in the Hudson River Derby with a 2-0 victory at Red Bull Arena.

David Villa led New York City FC to a 2-0 Hudson River derby win over the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, remaining on top of the Audi Player Index.

Villa is tied for third in MLS with 10 goals this season. He shares the league lead with 16 goals-plus-assists, tied with Nemanja Nikolic and David Accam. Nikolic is the MLS goals leader with 14 this season.

Villa is averaging an MLS-best 6.8 touches per 90 minutes in the attacking penalty area. He also leads the league with 70 shots. His 4.4 shots per 90 minutes rank second behind Sebastian Giovinco (minimum 500 minutes played).

Villa did not score in a 2-0 win over NYRB -- Jack Harrison and Ben Sweat did. It was Sweat's first MLS goal. He has a ways to go to catch up to Villa.
