Fantasy Follow-Up: Week One

Andre Schurrle, who scored for Chelsea at Burnley, is good value at 6.6m.

The biggest Premier League talking point was Manchester United's first home loss on opening day since 1972 and it came under new manager Louis van Gaal.

That was reality. As for ESPN FC's Premier Fantasy game, many goals and assists came from low-budget fantasy players. Here's a look at the notable performers:

Outstanding performances

Saido Berahino, WBA (5.5)

The Baggies' bargain-priced forward scored a penalty and got another goal for the home side.

Gylfi Sigurdsson, Swansea (6.1)

Having returned to Wales, the Icelandic midfielder had a goal and an assist vs. Manchester United.

Raheem Sterling, Liverpool (7.4)

The lively midfielder had a goal and an assist in the home win over Southampton.

Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea (8.4)

The midfielder had a terrific debut with two assists; the first to Andre Schurrle was absolutely world-class. Right now he looks to be a bargain for fantasy managers.

Andre Schurrle, Chelsea (6.6)

The midfielder continued the excellent play he showed at the World Cup and scored Chelsea's second goal.

Impressive debut

Diego Costa, Chelsea (9.0) Scored a goal and gave the Blues the much-needed muscle they have lacked up front.

Wayne Rooney opened his account for the season but had little else to smile about.

Business as usual

Wayne Rooney, Manchester United (9.4)

Continuing his pre-season form, Rooney got his team's only goal at Old Trafford.

Aaron Ramsey, Arsenal (9.2)

Fully fit after last season's injury, his stoppage-time goal gave the Gunners a home victory over 10-man Crystal Palace.

Daniel Sturridge, Liverpool (9.5)

There is a new SAS combo at Anfield. The Reds' forward converted a pass from Sterling for the winning goal.

Sergio Aguero, Manchester City (9.1)

He scored 17 PL goals in 23 games last year and opened his account on Sunday, despite playing just seven minutes as a substitute.

Unlikely scorers

Branislav Ivanovic, Chelsea (7.6)

After scoring three PL goals last season, the 30-year-old defender got one at Burnley.

Lee Cattermole, Sunderland (5.1)

A long-range rocket went in from a player known more for his collection of yellow cards than goals.

Chris Wood, Leicester (4.5)

The bargain basement forward came off the bench to provide a late game-tying goal against Everton.

Nathaniel Clyne, Southampton (5.8)

Against Liverpool, the defender scored only his second Premier League goal (and first in nearly two years).

First goal for the club

Scott Arfield, Burnley (4.9)

The Clarets' midfielder scored a shock first goal against Chelsea, although the lead only lasted three minutes.

Jose Ulloa, Leicester (4.9)

The bargain fantasy forward scored against Everton on his Foxes' debut.\

Brede Hangeland, Crystal Palace (5.4)

The Fulham cast-off defender scored his first goal in 98 PL games for his managerless club.

Eric Dier, Tottenham (5.1)

The 20-year-old defender debutante scored an unlikely late winner to give his team a road victory.

Quiet debuts

Mame Biram Diouf, Stoke (5.7)

The new signing took no shots vs. Aston Villa and was subbed out after 71 minutes.

Thibaut Courtois, Chelsea (7.4)

The Belgian gave up a goal and made one save against promoted Burnley.

Not in my net

Allan McGregor, Hull (5.3) A penalty save, clean sheet, and five saves for the Tigers' goalkeeper in the London road victory.

Key assists

Harry Kane, Tottenham (5.2)

Spurs' late substitute provided the service for Dier's game-winning goal.

Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal (9.0)

The expensive transfer's delicate set-piece was headed in by Laurent Koscielny (7.1).

Dusan Tadic, Southampton (5.5)

The Serbian midfielder looks to be a great acquisition and set up Clyne with a glorious back heel.

Edin Dzeko, Manchester City (8.1)

He had just one Prem assist last season, but notched his first of the new campaign on City's opening goal.

Jordan Henderson, Liverpool (6.6)

After seven assists last season, the midfielder opened his account for the new season by laying on Sterling's goal.

Seeing red

Kyle Naughton, Tottenham (5.3), James Collins, West Ham (5.3), Jason Puncheon, Crystal Palace (6.0)
