Fantasy Focus: Premier League players under the radar

ESPN FC's Mark Donaldson highlights which midfielders could add valuable points to your squad this weekend.

It goes without saying that the key to any successful fantasy team is to have the season's consistent, top-scoring players. The likes of Branislav Ivanovic (24.6 percent ownership), Cesc Fabregas (34.1 percent), Raheem Sterling (47.5 percent), Aaron Ramsey (22.6 percent), Diego Costa (41.5 percent) and Wayne Rooney (26.2 percent) all have high levels of ownership and are likely to continue scoring well throughout the season.

The issue, of course,...

Aaron Ramsey's recent good form makes him a solid choice as fantasy captain.
Aaron Ramsey's recent good form makes him a solid choice as fantasy captain.

There will be 10 games played on Saturday and Sunday with one chance to check announced lineups: QPR hosting Stoke.

Saturday, Sept. 20

QPR (1-0-3) vs. Stoke (1-2-2)

Rangers were overwhelmed by Manchester United and have scored only one goal in four matches while conceding nine.

Stoke is not much better offensively, with just two goals scored.

Burnley (0-2-2) vs. Sunderland (0-3-1)

Burnley, struggling to stay alive, have only scored one goal.

The Black Cats have three draws and no goals...

Fantasy follow-up: Week Four

Two goals and an assist made Southampton's Graziano Pelle a fantasy steal.
Two goals and an assist made Southampton's Graziano Pelle a fantasy steal.

Outstanding performances

Diego Costa, Chelsea (9.7)
All fitness doubts were answered three times with a hat trick against Swansea. He is the leading fantasy point producer and has seven goals in four matches.

Graziano Pelle, Southampton (6.0)
Slipping under the fantasy radar, his brace and assist give him 26 fantasy points, runner-up only to Costa.

Jack Wilshere, Arsenal (6.5)
A goal and assist against Manchester City, his first multiple fantasy points of the season.

Fantasy Focus: New faces in the Premier League game

ESPN FC's Mark Donaldson breaks down the best potential forwards and midfielders in the market.

Fantasy managers seldom embrace the great unknown. It's why at the start of the season the bargain players from the previous season always lead the transfer market, whether or not there is hard evidence they will produce that same form.

- It's not too late: Sign up for Premier League fantasy

And that's exactly why deadline-day signings rarely attract huge moves in the market. With transfers at a premium the default is often "better the devil you know" rather than throw yourself in with one of the...

Premier League play resumes with 10 games over three days. The one chance to check announced lineups before the week locks will be Arsenal-Manchester City.

Saturday, Sept. 13

Arsenal (1-2-0) vs. Manchester City (2-0-1)

The week's marquee game has the Gunners, minus injured Olivier Giroud (8.9), coming off a draw with Leicester hosting a City team that lost at home to Stoke. Arsenal has won 19 straight home EPL games. Alexis Sanchez (8.9) got his first EPL goal. New addition Danny Welbeck (6.3),...

Fantasy follow-up: Week Three

Diego Costa has continued his brilliant start at Chelsea with two goals against Everton.

Outstanding performances

Diego Costa, Chelsea (9.5) Did Costa have a miraculous injury recovery, or were doubts about his fitness managerial gamesmanship? Whatever the case, Costa's two goals give him four for the season.

Nathan Dyer, Swansea (6.2) The midfielder had a brace and has three goals in as many games.

Ramires, Chelsea (6.2) Scored a goal and an assist in the Chelsea battle royale at Goodison Park.

Andreas Weimann, Aston Villa (6.4) Recorded a goal (his second of the season) and an...
