Fantasy follow-up: Week 18

ESPN FC's Paul Mariner and Alexis Nunes break down Manchester United's 3-1 victory over a faltering Newcastle.

Outstanding performances

Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal (10.2)

Despite having a penalty save, the Chilean grabbed his 10th league goal of the season and then added his sixth assist. With 100 points, he is the top-performing fantasy forward.

Wayne Rooney, Manchester United (10.1)

He figured in all three goals against Newcastle, scoring twice and adding an assist. He is a fantasy owner's dream right now.

Diego Costa, Chelsea (10.1)

The forward assisted on the first goal vs. West Ham and later scored his...

Fantasy Preview: Week 18

The in-form Cesc Fabregas is one of the fantasy captain recommendations for week 18.
The in-form Cesc Fabregas is one of the fantasy captain recommendations for week 18.

All 10 games will be played on Boxing Day with roster rotation a concern for fantasy managers. One match for announced lineups: Chelsea-West Ham.

Friday, Dec. 26

Chelsea (13-3-1) vs. West Ham (9-4-4)

Chelsea's first place standing is reflected by the most goals scored (38) and joint-leader with fewest conceded (13). Cesc Fabregas (9.8) had a goal and an assist against Stoke, and although Eden Hazard (10.2) has two goals and two assists the last four games, he left with an injured ankle.

The Hammers...

Fantasy follow-up: Week 17

Late derby drama, a dodgy red and Santi Cazorla's wardrobe malfunction. It was a big weekend in the Premier League!

Outstanding performances:

Charlie Austin, QPR (7.1)
Maybe a fire extinguisher can cool off the QPR forward. Three goals against West Bromwich Albion moved him to 11 on the season. He has four goals and one assist in his last two games played.

David Silva, Manchester City (8.1)
At Crystal Palace, the Spaniard scored his first goal since Oct. 25 and then added a second.

Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea (9.8)
Recorded his league-high 12th assist and then scored a goal against Stoke to keep his team in first...

Fantasy Preview: Week 17

ESPN FC's Mark Donaldson breaks down which side has the best run of games and who you should pick up to capitalise.

Saturday, Dec. 20

Manchester City (11-3-2) vs. Crystal Palace (3-6-7)

City's attack is further weakened with Edin Dzeko (6.8) out injured. Yaya Toure (10.0) and David Silva (8.1) are good fantasy picks.

Beyond Mile Jedinak (7.1), Palace have no fantasy players worth mentioning.

Aston Villa (5-4-7) vs. Manchester United (9-4-3)

Villa have Kieran Richardson (4.5) and Alan Hutton (5.8) suspended. Christian Benteke (7.2) is their offensive hope.

Manchester United, on a six-game winning streak,...

Fantasy Follow-up: Week 16

Chelsea's Eden Hazard was one of several fantasy standouts over the weekend.
Chelsea's Eden Hazard was one of several fantasy standouts over the weekend.

Outstanding performances

Olivier Giroud, Arsenal (8.4)
The Frenchman had a brace against Newcastle, breaking a brief three-game scoring slump.

Santi Cazorla, Arsenal (7.8)
Looking more like last season's fantasy star, the Spaniard scored his first goal from open play and then added his second penalty goal against Newcastle, giving him three goals in his last two games.

Eden Hazard, Chelsea (9.9)
He scored the opening goal against Hull and then provided an assist to Diego Costa, giving...

How to solve a fantasy problem like Man City's Sergio Aguero

With the resetting of squads less than a month away, ESPN FC's Mark Donaldson has some advice to Premier League Fantasy players: replace your injured players.

Just seven short days ago this very column was extolling the virtues of having Sergio Aguero in your fantasy team. In fact, it was said that having Aguero was a must.

That was before, of course, Aguero was forced off injured just two minutes into Saturday's win over Everton. Let's hope not too many transfers were used getting the Argentine into squads ahead of that game, and that market moves are available to make to replace him again for the remaining gameweeks of segment one.

The only saving grace...
