Liverpool to hold City to draw; Cristiano Ronaldo to score first for Real Madrid

In hindsight it was perhaps unwise to put all our eggs in the Manchester City basket at the weekend as Pep Guardiola's men somehow snatched defeat from the jaws of victory against Manchester United. City now face a season-defining week as they host Liverpool in an intriguing Champions League quarterfinal second leg.

Running total: -£49.11.

The Home Banker

Manchester City were famously blitzed 3-0 at Anfield to leave their Champions League dreams hanging by a thread. Liverpool claimed a breathless 3-0 win on Merseyside to put them in the box seat ahead of this return leg and, since then, Guardiola's side also fudged their lines in the Premier League after surrendering a 2-0 half-time lead in losing 3-2 to Manchester United. Liverpool have one of the most exciting attacking units around and if Mohamed Salah is fit it's difficult to see them not progressing to the last four. "Everybody thinks he'll be ready for Tuesday but at the end we will see," said a magnanimous Jurgen Klopp over the weekend but the wily German must be quietly confident after overseeing two fabulous performances against City already this season. The draw is a 17/4 shout at the Etihad and could be worth nibbling under the circumstances.

Selection: £4 on the draw at 17/4 with bet365.

The Tasty Treble

Barcelona looked a class above Roma last week and if they show the same level of application in Rome they look worth a bet at 4/6 on Tuesday. Lionel Messi scored a sublime hat trick against Leganes and the irrepressible Argentine can help the Catalan giants to a place in the semifinals. Elsewhere Atletico Madrid are a bet at 5/6 to beat Sporting Lisbon. The Portuguese side were left with six players for Sunday's match with Pacos de Ferreira after president Bruno de Carvalho suspended 19 of the club's players following a Facebook spat with the majority of the first team. Atletico were easy 2-0 winners in Spain and can repeat the trick on Thursday. Throw in Marseille at 11/8 to beat RB Leipzig and you have a treble paying over 6/1 with bet365.

Selection: £2 on the treble at 6.25/1 with bet365.

The Euro Wager

Arsenal's Europa League clash with CSKA Moscow produced a bagful of goals first time around and backing 'Over 3.5' goals in Russia could be the way to go on Thursday night. The Gunners have scored three goals or more in each of their last five matches and Arsene Wenger is not the type of boss who will park the bus and try to defend a 4-1 first leg advantage.

Selection: £2 on 'Over 3.5 goals' at 7/4 with bet365.

The Wildcard Tip

Cristiano Ronaldo destroyed Juventus with a virtuoso shift last week in Turin and the Portuguese goal machine looks difficult to ignore at 5/2 to score first on Wednesday. Ronaldo's scoring stats in 2018 are basically insane and he notched again for Los Blancos on Sunday as they drew 1-1 with Atletico Madrid.

Selection: £2 on Ronaldo to score first at 5/2 with bet365.

The Bookie Basher

Bayern Munich have one foot in the Champions League semifinals but didn't look totally convincing against Sevilla last week. The Spaniards have nothing to lose in Bavaria and will look to get out of the blocks quickly against Bayern, who wrapped up yet another Bundesliga title over the weekend. Bayern to win after conceding the first goal is a 7/1 shout at the Allianz Arena and looks tempting. The Germans fell behind to Augsburg on Saturday before posting a 4-1 win and are not defensively impregnable.

Selection: £1 on Bayern Munich to win from behind at 7/1 with bet365.
