TOP STORY: Man City join Skriniar chase
Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar remains a top transfer target for numerous clubs across Europe, and the Daily Mail is reporting that Manchester City are joining Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur with interest in the Slovakia centre-back.
The 27-year-old Skriniar joined Inter from Sampdoria in 2017 and he is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning he is free to talk to other clubs about a precontract agreement as of Jan. 1.
PSG have had several transfer offers for Skriniar's rejected, including one of £43 million, while Chelsea's interest may have cooled after having already brought in Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana from Napoli and Leicester City, respectively.
That could pave the way for City, but the Premier League champions already have five centre-backs in their squad, including recent addition Manuel Akanji. Tottenham boss Antonio Conte would also love to be reunited with his former star as he looks to continue bolstering his squad after their impressive start to the season.

21.40 BST: Valencia have secured Giorgi Mamardashvili to a new long-term contract, reports Fabrizio Romano.
The 21-year-old Georgia international goalkeeper will remain at the Estadio Mestalla until 2027, having signed a five-year deal, where he has recently established himself as the starter between the posts.
He secured a clean sheet on Saturday as Valencia edged past Celta Vigo with a 1-0 victory in LaLiga.
21.16 BST: Diogo Dalot is being monitored by AC Milan, according to Calciomercato.
It is understood that the Rossoneri have been disappointed with the start to life that Sergino Dest has made at the San Siro, and they are now looking for long-term options that could be acquired in January.
Dalot, 23, enjoyed a positive spell when deployed at full-back for the Serie A champions in the 20/21 campaign, but he has since found himself starting regularly after returning to Old Trafford.
20.44 BST: Erik ten Hag is planning to evaluate his squad over the international break as he identifies areas where he will look to make signings for in January, reports the Athletic.
Despite acquiring a number of reinforcements over the summer, Manchester United are prepared to back their new manager further when the transfer window re-opens, after the club's recent upturn in form in the Premier League.
20.25 BST: Despite reports claiming that Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund was close to completing a move to Chelsea, the Austria Bundesliga club say that he is expected to stay.
Speaking on the rumours, as quoted by CBS, they said: "FC Red Bull Salzburg has never been contacted from Chelsea to talk about any transfer details of Christoph Freund. We expect him to stay."
20.00 BST: Barcelona are looking to part ways with Gerard Pique as they continue to manage their financial situation, understands Sport.
The 35-year-old centre-back is reported to have claimed that he has no intentions of retiring from Barcelona as a substitute, and having made just one appearance in LaLiga this season, the Blaugrana are hopeful that they can reach an agreement with their highest-earner that would see him leave the Camp Nou.
19.31 BST: Angel City FC announced Monday that defender Vanessa Gilles will go on loan to France's Lyon through June 2023, per Reuters. ACFC will retain the 26-year-old Canadian's rights and have extended her contract through December 2023.
"Leaving before the end of the season was a very difficult decision to make both because we are in a run for playoffs, and because I have been injured and unable to contribute as much as I would have liked," Giles said in a statement. "It is very bittersweet. However, having the opportunity to go on loan to Lyon and compete in the Champions League among some of the best in the world has always been a dream of mine, and is one that I couldn't pass up."
Gilles scored the first goal of ACFC's inaugural NWSL season on April 29. She also has one assist in seven matches. Gilles was a member of Team Canada's 2000 Olympic gold medal-winning squad.
"We've been fortunate in our first year to attract world class talent and players like Vanessa," ACFC general manager Angela Hucles Mangano said. "While her presence will be greatly missed, we feel that by extending her contract through December 2023 and retaining her rights, we are supporting her as a player in what we know is a dream opportunity for her."
19.10 BST: Leicester City are considering making a move for Brentford manager Thomas Frank as they consider parting ways with Brendan Rodgers, according to the Sun.
It is reported that they are looking for potential replacements for the 49-year-old head coach, but they are wary of a severance fee that is believed to be in excess of £10 million, with Rodgers among the highest-earning managers in the Premier League.
If the Foxes are unable to reach an agreement over compensation in a move that would see them able to acquire Frank, they could consider a move for Sean Dyche, who is currently without a club after last managing Burnley.
18.39 BST: After securing a move in the summer for Lucas Paqueta, West Ham United are prepared to offload Manuel Lanzini, writes Football Insider.
It is reported that the 29-year-old attacking midfielder was informed by the Hammers that he is free to find a new club, but having failed to find a move on deadline day, the latest suggests that he will be allowed to leave in the January transfer window.
18.11 BST: In more Bundesliga news, VfB Stuttgart have confirmed the signing of Dan-Axel Zagadou.
With plenty of clubs on the look out for a centre-back, Zagadou, 23, has been on the radar of teams across Europe since his contract expired with Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
He has signed a four-year deal until 2026 with Pellegrino Matarazzo's side.
17.43 BST: Dani Olmo was linked with Barcelona and Real Madrid in the summer, and Leipzig are now looking to offer him a new contract, reports Nicolo Schira.
The Spain international has registered two assists in five league appearances this season, with the Bundesliga club keen to secure his future with a new five-year contract until 2027.
It is reported that they are willing to increase the 24-year-old attacking midfielder's salary to a figure in the region of €5 million-per-year, in a move that would see his current €75 million release clause removed.
17.17 BST: Everton are keen to sign Conor Coady on a permanent transfer, reveals Ekrem Konur.
The 29-year-old centre-back has been on loan at the Toffees from Wolves this season, but having impressed with his performances for Frank Lampard's side, it looks as though they are looking to activate the option clause that would see his move become permanent.
It is understood that a fee in the region of £12 million would be required to sign the England international on a permanent basis.
16.04 BST: The most recent transfer window saw records broken as clubs in the Premier League spent a colossal €2.24 billion -- including massive deals for Antony (€95m to Manchester United), Wesley Fofana (€80m to Chelsea) and Darwin Nunez (€75m to Liverpool). Meanwhile, Italy's Serie A (€749m), France's Ligue 1 (€557m), Spain's LaLiga (€505m) and Germany's Bundesliga (€484m), spent a total of €2.67bn combined.
But among all that money changing hands were some truly odd moves. Here, ESPN's writers assess the weirdest summer transfers that confused them the most.
15.15 BST: Alex Iwobi's impressive early season form for Everton is set to earn him a new Everton contract, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Iwobi joined Everton from Arsenal three years ago but has struggled to find top form for much of his time at Goodison Park.
But he has excelled under Frank Lampard and talks have now begun over an extension to his deal, which expires in the summer of 2024.
Everton are also reported to be in talks with Anthony Gordon and Jordan Pickford over new contracts.
14.11 BST: According to Sport, Ronald Araujo turned down lucrative offers from clubs in England before signing a new contract with Barcelona.
Araujo, 23, signed a new contract in April keeping him at the club until 2026, with his release clause rising to €1 billion ($1.16bn.)
Signed from Uruguayan club Boston River in 2018, Araujo is now being compared to Barca legend Carles Puyol.
He was linked with Chelsea and Liverpool earlier this year.
13.10 BST: Jules Kounde has told L'Équipe why he rejected a move to Chelsea in order to join Barcelona this summer.
The 23-year-old had been tracked by Chelsea for over a year, but they were unable to agree terms with Sevilla. And just when it seemed a deal was in place, Barca nipped in to sign the central defender.
"It is true that I was not far from signing there [for Chelsea] this summer," he said. "Barca were interested but had concerns. But when I got that phone call and I felt that Barca had the possibility of bringing me in, I didn't hesitate much.
"I also felt a desire [from Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel] to make me come, but I simply preferred Xavi's speech."
Kounde also confirmed has was wanted by Manchester City in 2020.
"Yes, after my first season in Sevilla," he added. "It was very tempting. But I had also specified that it was my first year and that there was no question of forcing anything."
12.15 BST: Sport1 is reporting that several Premier League scouts have been keeping tabs Eintracht Frankfurt's Ansgar Knauff.
Knauff, 20, is on loan at Frankfurt from Borussia Dortmund and scouts have watched him in action against Wolfsburg and Marseille.
The right-sided winger has less than two years remaining on his contract, and other clubs are hoping to pick up a good deal on a player who has shown promise.
He was the Europa League Young Player of the Season for 2021-22 having helped the Bundesliga club win the competition.
11.20 BST: James Rodriguez was happy to have made his debut with Olympiakos despite their 2-1 league defeat at Aris on Sunday.
The Colombia international had only joined the Greek champions three days earlier from Qatari club Al-Rayyan. The former Real Madrid and Bayern player started and played 72 minutes on Sunday.
He wrote on Instagram: "A new chapter begins. I'm happy with my debut. This is only the start. We will work to achieve the team's aims."
James will travel to New Jersey to join Colombia's national team ahead of their friendlies against Guatemala and Mexico. Coach Nestor Lorenzo recently spoke about the importance of James in the squad. "James has given a lot to Colombian soccer and has much more to give," he said. "I personally spoke with him, I noticed that he was very committed and eager to be there, to continue giving himself fully to the Colombian national team.
"He convinced me and at the beginning of a process, it is important to have those type of players that show commitment, desire."
10.15 BST: Nacional president Jose Fuentes has confirmed Luis Suarez will leave the club at the end of the year. The former Barcelona and Liverpool star returned to his first club this summer as a free agent, 16 years after leaving the Uruguayan outfit.
Suarez, who was included in Uruguay's squad for the upcoming international window, has scored four goals and set up three more in eight league appearances for the Montevideo-based club.
"As soon as the [Uruguay] season is over, Suarez will leave," Fuentes said. "That is what we agreed at the time. I'm saying this so as to not generate false expectations. He made a huge effort to come here. Suarez will leave."
Suarez, 35, is Uruguay's all-time leading goal scorer with 68 goals in 132 appearances and is expected to play a part in Qatar at the 2022 World Cup.
09.12 BST: Arsenal defender William Saliba has said he is now happy at the Emirates after breaking into the first team and helping the club to the top of the Premier League table.
The 21-year-old joined the Gunners three years ago but hadn't made a single senior appearance until last month, having been loaned out three times. Now he is one of the first names on the teamsheet and has scored twice, including in Sunday's 3-0 victory at Brentford.
He was excellent on loan art Marseille last season, and the club had hoped to sign the centre-back permanently, but he returned to Arsenal. Now the player, a crowd favourite, says he isn't thinking of moving on.
"I'm at home here," Sailba told Sky Sports. "I like London, I like the club, I like everything. I feel at home here."
08.15 BST: Marca reports that Real Madrid will have no future interest in either Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland after the two strikers rejected a move to the Bernabeu in the summer.
Mbappe, 23, was expected to sign for Los Blancos when his contract expired in July, but the France international made a late U-turn and penned a new deal at Paris Saint-Germain.
Haaland, meanwhile, had the pick of every major club across Europe due to the €60m clause which enabled him to move on from Borussia Dortmund. The 22-year-old chose to sign for Manchester City.
Marca says that Mbappe will never again be offered the same financial terms, and that the player opted for money over the sporting challenge. And even though Haaland has future clauses to allow him to leave City for a low fee, Madrid will not re-enter a race to sign him.

- Dan-Axel Zagadou is set to stay in the Bundesliga and move to Stuttgart from Borussia Dortmund, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. The French centre-back is due to undergo medical tests this week ahead of a free transfer, with an agreement between both clubs said to be imminent. West Ham United were rumoured to be interested in the 23-year-old, but he has opted to stay in Germany rather than move to the Premier League.
- Sport reports that Barcelona scouts were hoping to see two of their rumoured targets in action on Sunday as Santos faced Palmeiras in the Sao Paulo derby, with the Cataln side having monitored for several months centre-forward Endrick and winger Angelo Gabriel. In the end, despite having trained with Santos' first team all week, 16-year-old Endrick did not make an appearance while Gabriel remained on the bench for Palmeiras. Endrick would not be allowed to move to Barca until he is 18 under FIFA rules.
- Mohammed Kudus is the latest star to emerge for Ajax this season, and his performances have attracted the interest of Juventus, according to Calciomercato. Kudus scored against Liverpool in the Champions League last week, one of four goals in his last five matches. This sensational form followed an impressive preseason in which he scored three times in as many games. Everton are also interested the 22-year-old Ghanaian, whose transfer cost could be as little as €10m.
- Despite failing to sign Rafael Leao in the summer, Paris Saint-Germain are still interested in making a move for the AC Milan forward, according to Le10Sport. The two clubs had been in contact during the summer but talks never reached an advanced stage, with Chelsea ahead in the queue having made a tangible offer of €70m, which was rejected. However, with Leo's contract coming to an end in 2023, the Rossoneri could listen to offers in January.
