TOP STORY: Liverpool and Chelsea battle for Werner

Liverpool and Chelsea are both reported to be interested in signing RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner, the Mirror reports.

The £60 million-rated goal scorer has already been involved in negotiations with Chelsea over a potential deal. Leipzig will try to keep hold of him until the summer, but once Liverpool caught wind of Chelsea's interest, their own pursuit of the player began.

Reds' boss Jurgen Klopp is reported to be a big admirer of Germany international Werner, but whether that will translate into a legitimate offer remains to be seen.

22.14 GMT: Could Christian Eriksen be in a new uniform next week?

According to The Daily Mail, Inter are planning on having the Dane ready for next weekend's match with Cagliari. Tottenham are asking for £15 million for Eriksen, who is in the final year of his contract with Tottenham.

Eriksen has struggled to hit his top-level this season, having produced just three goals and three assists in 27 games for Spurs.

21.02 GMT: Mbwana Samatta, Olivier Giroud, Krzysztof Piatek and Islam Slimani are all strikers who have been mentioned with Aston Villa this January.

Add another name to the list as Amiens' Serhou Guirassy is being monitored by not only Villa but also Leicester City, according to The Daily Mail. The 23-year-old Frenchman has impressed this season with Amiens after moving back to the club from Bundesliga outfit Cologne.

Guirassy has scored four goals this season and was bought just past summer by the French side for £5.4 million.

20.21 GMT: Dinamo Zagreb's Dani Olmo has had a breakout season, firmly putting his name in the winter shop window.

The ex-Barcelona youth has been mentioned with the likes of Barcelona, Manchester City and Chelsea in recent weeks but it sounds like it will be AC Milan who will land the Spaniard, according to Croatian outlet Sportske novosti. Olmo, 21, impressed this season in the Champions League with Zagreb and even made his Spain debut back in November against Malta.

Milan are reportedly set to pay €20 million for the attacking midfielder, who has eight goals and seven assists this season.

19.49 GMT: Marcus Rashford is set to miss considerably time with a back injury which could dramatically alter Man United's plans during the winter transfer window.

Rashford is expected to miss a minimum of six weeks and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted after United's 2-0 defeat to Liverpool that United could look to add a striker in January,

"We're always looking at chances to improve the squad -- with Marcus out for a while we have to look at it closely. We might look at some short-term deals. We are looking at numbers," he added.

After shipping out Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez this summer, Anthony Martial and 18-year-old Mason Greenwood are the only strikers remaining on the United roster.

19.13 GMT: Arsenal may have hit a snag in their pursuit of PSG full-back Layvin Kurzawa.

The Frenchman wants a move to the Emirates but PSG boss Thomas Tuchel is keen to keep him and has said as much.

"We need Layvin," Tuchel said in a news conference ahead of Sunday's Coupe de France clash away at Lorient. "I have not spoken with him about a departure, nor anybody else.

"We have Juan [Bernat] starting on the left and Layvin behind him. Layvin has played well recently, trained well and it is up to him to show what he can do.

"If he is healthy, he will play against Lorient, he is an important player in this position."

The left-back, 27, has been linked with a move to Arsenal this month with the Gunners missing both Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolasinac out injured.

18.40 GMT: Aston Villa have lost a striker to injury (Wesley) and sold another to Qatar (Jonathan Kodjia), meaning the club is sure to bring in a forward this month,

Olivier Giroud is the new hot name linked with the Villains, the Chelsea and France frontman linked by Le10sport. Giroud, 33, was reportedly headed to Inter Milan but now Villa have entered the fray and are making a big push.

The report indicated that Villa want to sign the World Cup winner on a permanent basis, with Monaco's Islam Slimani viewed as a Plan B.

17.57 GMT: Have Man United bid £25 million for a teenager?

According to The Times, the answer is yes. The paper claims that United have bid £25 million for 16-year-old Birmingham midfielder Jude Bellingham. Birmingham's youngest ever debutant, Bellingham has made 25 appearances to date for the Blues, scoring four goals and impressing with his all-round play.

The teenager is considered one of the brightest young talents in English football and has reportedly attracted interest from top clubs in England, Germany, Italy and Spain. United have invested in young British talent of late and Bellingham, who would likely be loaned back to Birmingham for 18 months, fits that bill.

17.14 GMT: While Aston Villa look close to signing Genk and Tanzania striker Mbwana Samatta, another forward has left the club.

Jonathan Kodjia, who has made just six substitute appearances in the Premier League this season, has signed for Qatari side Al-Gharafa for a reported £2.5 million.

The 30-year-old joined Villa from Angers in 2016 and burst on to the scene with 19 goals in his debut season, but his role has declined with the Birmingham club, especially since Villa earned promotion last May.

Al-Gharafa are not new to signing players from Europe's top leagues, Wesley Sneijder, Ze Roberto and Marcel Desailly having all previously played for the club.

16.47 GMT: Leicester City have been the biggest surprise in the Premier League, Brendan Rodgers' men sitting third after 23 matchdays.

With so many players starring for the Foxes, the competition for places at the club is at an all-time high. One player who could be a victim of that competition is midfielder Hamza Choudhury, who reportedly could be available on loan. The Sunday People suggests that Newcastle and Burnley have enquired about the England Under-21 international, who has appeared 19 times this season.

With Youri Tielemens, James Maddison, Wilfred Ndidi, Marc Albrighton, Harvey Barnes and Dennis Praet all in competition with Choudhury for a midfield place, a loan move might be best for the 22-year-old.

16.12 GMT: German outlet Bild reports that Bayern Munich have entered the race to sign Real Madrid defender Achraf Hakimi, who is currently on loan at Dortmund.

Hakimi's loan ends in the summer but Bayern are keen to land him for €45m.

The player told Ruhr Nachrichten last week: "My heart is divided between Madrid and Dortmund. Right now, I'm only focusing on taking each game as it comes and performing to the best of my ability. Next summer's still a little way off and we'll just have to see what happens."

Dortmund fans won't enjoy it if the full-back moves to Bayern, but they've certainly seen plenty of their players tread that path in recent years.

15.31 GMT: When a player changes their agent, it usually means they're going to make a big transfer soon.

Manchester City can be worried then, as that's exactly what 23-year-old winger Leroy Sane has done.

The Daily Express reports that Sane has switched from David Beckham-owned agency DB Venture to LIAN Sports this week, with Sport1 claiming that Bayern Munich will revisit a €120m deal once the Germany international returns from his long-term knee injury.

15.04 GMT: Liverpool have made efforts to land some young players like Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg in recent months, now Nice youngster Pedro Brazao is next, says RMC Sport.

Brazao, 17, has two caps for Portugal U19s and the forward is attracting plenty of interest, despite only making one substitute appearance for Patrick Vieira's side this season.

14.29 GMT: Roma and Inter Milan have re-opened negotiations over Matteo Politano, says Goal Italy.

A swap deal with Leonardo Spinazzola recently fell through, but the two clubs are talking again with a possible transfer for Politano on the cards.

13.45 GMT: FC Salzburg have finally got some good news in the transfer market.

After selling some of their star players, now 18-year-old German wonderkid Karim Adeyemi, who had been attracting interest from Barcelona, Liverpool and Arsenal, has signed a new contract.

13.19 GMT: Former Man United and City striker Carlos Tevez has done an interview with La Nacion in which the 35-year-old has ruled out any more transfers in his career.

"I'll finish my career with Boca," he said. "I will decide in June whether to retire or not."

12.36 GMT: Corriere dello Sport reports that Victor Moses' move to Inter Milan is very close, with only a medical and final terms to get in the way of the deal.

Moses is on loan at Fenerbahce from Chelsea, but wants to reunite with former boss Antonio Conte. However, the Blues evidently want a guarantee that Inter will buy the Nigerian over the summer if they cut his loan short, but also want €15m, which could be a step too far for Inter.

12.09 GMT: Arsenal were reportedly interested in Man City defender John Stones -- a report that was quickly scuppered by both Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola.

But might the Gunners still be interested if he left City?

11.29 GMT: Fiorentina and Napoli are going head-to-head to sign Hellas Verona's Sofyan Amrabat, says Gianluca Di Marzio.

Napoli have reportedly had a deal agreed which also includes the signature of Kosovo defender Amir Rrahmani, but Fiorentina are ready to enter the bidding on Monday.

11.16 GMT: Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni has reportedly caught the eye of Barcelona and Manchester City.

Bastoni, 20, is highly rated, having progressed through the Atalanta youth academy, and was the subject of bids from both clubs, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

City wanted a swap deal involving defender Joao Cancelo, while Barcelona had a straight cash offer -- but both offers were rejected by Inter.

10.39 GMT: Erling Haaland is a special player -- proven by his debut hat trick for Dortmund. The German club landed him for just €20m this month, but will Man United regret not pushing harder?

10.05 GMT: Arsenal's Alexandre Lacazette and Borussia Dortmund's Paco Alcacer are the options up front for Atletico Madrid if they fail to sign Edinson Cavani from PSG this month.

Mundo Deportivo reckons that Atleti have a few backup options to strengthen up front, with Cavani commanding large wages because he is a free agent in the summer.

09.40 GMT: Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly is now on the radar of PSG, says Foot Mercato.

Koulibaly, 28, is keen to leave the Italian club and the Senegal international could be set to earn €12m a year if he joins PSG.

09.00 GMT: Athletico Paranaense defensive midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has been linked to Arsenal and Goal reports that the club's technical director Edu has met the players agents for talks.

Guimaraes, 22, would cost a reported €30m.

PAPER TALK (by Harry Kettle)

Messi wants Barcelona to sign Aguero

According to the Mirror, Barcelona star Lionel Messi has urged new boss Quique Setien to go after Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero.

Messi was summoned to a meeting with Setien recently, where the legendary No. 10 let his new manager know the sort of direction he wants to see the club go in. One of the most notable highlights of the chat allegedly saw the Argentina international suggest that Aguero would be the best possible replacement for the injured Luis Suarez.

At this moment in time, though, there has been no official approach from Barcelona to Manchester City.

PSG to make massive Guardiola offer?

Manchester City are preparing themselves for a big offer from French giants Paris Saint-Germain for manager Pep Guardiola, the Daily Express reports.

The friction between PSG and manager Thomas Tuchel is said to be at breaking point, and if the Ligue 1 champions do decide to get rid of him, their first port of call will be to go after Guardiola. PSG's owners, Qatar Sports Investments, will reportedly put in a substantial bid to try to get a deal done for the man who is considered to be one of the best managers in the world.

City are coming off the back of a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace as their Premier League title race continues to falter.

Tap-ins

- Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that the club wants to bring in some new attacking options during the January transfer window, the Mirror reports. The Blues continue to occupy fourth spot in the Premier League as a direct result of the clubs around them slipping up, but in the wake of their 1-0 loss to Newcastle United on Saturday, the boss made it clear they need some goal scorers.

- Further to reports linking Everton with Emre Can, the Daily Mail is reporting that Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti is eager to make a £30m move that would see the Juventus midfielder make the jump over to Goodison Park. The former Liverpool man has fallen down the pecking order in Turin, although Inter Milan are still believed to be in the running.
