Toe Poke Daily: Chelsea snub transfer ban by unveiling new player 'Jorghino'

The Toe Poke Daily is here every day to bring you all the weirdest stories, quirkiest viral content and top trolling that the internet has to offer, all in one place.

Chelsea fans had to do double-take when their side ran out to face Liverpool in Wednesday's UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul.

Wasn't there a transfer ban in place? How had Frank Lampard managed to smuggle a new player into their starting line-up?

Alas, it wasn't a new player after all. It was just the alter-ego of Jorginho, the midfielder they signed in 2018 from Napoli.

Yes the kit man had made a mess of the Chelsea playmaker's moniker, but he's not the first to make such a mistake. Just last month, LA Galaxy's front-line was led by a certain Zlatan Irbahimovic!

Still, the typo didn't stop the Brazil-born Italy international scoring an extra-time penalty in typically cool fashion to send the match to a shootout, which Liverpool won to lift the trophy.

Jurgen Klopp channels Rocky in praise of Aaadriaaan!

Liverpool claimed the Super Cup for the fourth time in their history by eventually seeing off Chelsea on penalties.

In the absence of injured Alisson Becker, Adrian proved to be the Reds' shootout hero, with the goalkeeper parrying away Tammy Abraham's meek spot kick to win the tie and his first trophy with his new club -- just nine days after joining them on a free transfer.

Praising his 'keeper after the game, Jurgen Klopp couldn't resist the Rocky Balboa reference.

Of course, this isn't the first time that Klopp has delivered an inspired performance on the mic following a big victory.

Indeed, who could possibly forget his wonderfully animated rendition of "Let's Talk About Six Baby" after the Champions League final in Madrid just three short months ago?

Antoine Griezmann breaks it to Alexandre Lacazette that he's been sold to Huddersfield

It's no secret that Antoine Griezmann, like so many of us, spends a high percentage of his free time pouring countless hours into Football Manager.

Again, like us mere mortals, Griezmann's FM save bled slightly into the real world this week when the Barcelona forward decided to show off a screenshot of his all-conquering Arsenal team of 2023.

The side was gilded with brilliant young superstars including Matthijs de Ligt, Joao Felix and Jadon Sancho among others.

This prompted actual Arsenal player Alexandre Lacazette to pipe up and ask Griezmann why he wasn't included in the starting line-up.

Griezmann replied by informing Lacazette that after winning the Premier League, the Carabao Cup and the Champions League in 2021, he'd been flogged off to Huddersfield for £23 million.

Ouch. If any Twitter conversation between teammates ever called for a "Ralph Wiggum heartbreak" gif, then it's this one.

That said, we're certain Huddersfield are delighted they only have to wait four more years before landing a treble-winning, international-calibre striker for such a low, low price.

Fan's one-man mission to get answers from Cristiano Ronaldo

Safe to say that Cristiano Ronaldo hasn't made many friends in South Korea this summer after failing to appear in highly-publicised friendly game last month.

Ronaldo remained on the bench as Juventus hammered out a 3-3 draw against a K-League select team in Seoul, disappointing the thousands of fans who had flocked to see the Portuguese forward and even leading to the K-League to brand his Italian club "shameless" and "liars."

The police are even investigating a criminal complaint filed against all the organisers of the game, though one jilted fan was unwilling to wait for answers. In fact, he decided to travel halfway across the world to seek them for himself.

Kwak Ji-Hyuk boarded a plane and flew to Sweden to confront Ronaldo as the Juve entourage arrived at a Stockholm hotel ahead of last week's International Champions Cup fixture.

Holding a sign hand-written in Portuguese, Kwak called out to Ronaldo as he made his way through the lobby, even shouting in English, "Why didn't you play in Korea?".

The video of the largely one-sided encounter was subsequently posted on Kwak's Youtube channel and quickly amassed over three million views.

According to various reports, Kwak now intends to fly on to Italy next month to harangue Ronaldo once again until he gets an suitable explanation from the man he used to idolise.

Best of luck with that.

A-League quits football to pursue hip hop career

Having worked so hard to get there, it's not often that professional footballers abandon their careers until they absolutely have too, when the knees start creaking and the legs won't allow it anymore.

However, Australian A-League club Newcastle Jets have announced that 22-year-old winger Joe Champness has been granted an extended leave of absence to allow his to chase his dreams of hip hop stardom in the United States.

Champness (who raps under the name "JOWIC" -- pronounced "Joey C") signed a distribution deal with Creative Music Group last month and has missed the Jets' 2019-20 preseason to meet with various producers in Los Angeles.

"We allowed Joey to head to the United States to pursue a dream in music at the start of last month," Newcastle chief executive Lawrie McKinna said. "He's made inroads in the business and the opportunity to remain in L.A. to chase those dreams is one that's too big for him to pass up."

Champness recently signed a new three-year deal with the Jets but will still spend the next 12 months pursuing his musical career in the US, meaning he will miss the entire A-League season.

"I wouldn't be doing this if I wasn't convinced that there's something out there," Champness told the Sydney Morning Herald. "It's not a normal situation, that's for sure. I've got a lot of love for the Newcastle Jets and a lot of respect for everyone on that team.

"I'm contracted there for the next three years, so it's an honour to be given that sort of opportunity and trust from the club in that sense as well."
