Stats: Ronaldo equals Messi record, Barca make it 17 straight, Haaland fastest to 15

The Champions League is back and with it so is midweek By The Numbers. And there was plenty of action on Tuesday night. Chelsea, Sevilla FC and Juventus beat Stade Rennes, Krasnodar and Ferencvaros respectively 2-1 (yeah, all of them) to become the first teams to advance to the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League round of 16.

Joining them in the knockouts is Barcelona, who swatted aside Dynamo Kiev 4-0. And they didn't even need Lionel Messi. Manchester United beat Istanbul Basaksehir 4-1 and PSG beat RB Leipzig 1-0 at home. Oh, and Erling Haaland continues to do Erling Haaland things - his Borussia Dortmund beat Club Brugge 3-0 to go top of Group F.

Here are the best stats of the night:

2

We start with a rather quirky one. Sevilla scored their earliest (Ivan Rakitic at 03:52) and their latest (Munir El Haddadi at 94:10) goals in a CL game ever with the two goals they scored vs Krasnodar.

4

Olivier Giroud is the fourth player to score for both Arsenal and Chelsea in the CL after William Gallas, Cesc Fabregas, and Nicolas Anelka.

7

Juventus are the second Italian side in the CL era to reach the round of 16 for 7+ consecutive seasons alongside Inter Milan (8, between 2004/05 and 2011/12).

This will be their 17th knockout stage appearance in the CL, the most by an Italian team. Entering the season, only four other teams (Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United) across Europe have more knockout-stage appearances.

10

Deniz Turuc is the first player to score a direct free kick vs Manchester United in the CL since Franck Ribery for Bayern Munich in March 2010, 10 years ago.

15

More obscure free kick trivia. Jadon Sancho is the first Englishman to score a direct free kick in the CL while playing for a non-English side since David Beckham (For Real Madrid vs Rosenborg) in October 2005.

16 in 12

With his brace on Tuesday, Haaland has scored 16 goals in 12 CL games. He's the fastest to 15 in the CL era. Haaland has now scored more CL goals this season (6) than any other player in the competition.

17

Barcelona advance to the UCL knockout stage for the 17th consecutive season. This is the second-longest streak behind Real Madrid, who have done it 23 consecutive times.

34

Since his debut in February, Bruno Fernandes has been directly involved in 34 goals in 35 appearances for Manchester United (21 goals, 13 assists) -- 16 more than any other player at the club in the same period.

Messi-Ronaldo watch

Lionel Messi was rested, Cristiano Ronaldo scored Juve's equaliser on the night.

15

Ronaldo scored his first CL goal of the season, which means he has now scored in each of the last 15 CL seasons. He joins Karim Benzema and Messi as the only players to score in 15+ consecutive CL seasons (Note -- Benzema and Messi are both at 16).

34

Ronaldo has now scored vs 34 different opponents in the CL, that's the second-highest ever. The record? Messi, against 36 different opponents.

70

Ronaldo has scored 70 goals in CL home games. This is a joint record for home goals in the history of the competition, level with, you guessed it, Messi.
