Belgium's Kevin De Bruyne eyes place in Euro 2016 final after Hungary win

Kevin De Bruyne is targeting a place in the final of Euro 2016 after Belgium reached the quarterfinals with an impressive 4-0 victory over Hungary.

After starting the tournament with a 2-0 defeat to Italy, the Red Devils, ranked second in the world, were back to their best in the comprehensive win in Toulouse.

Belgium are in what is seen as the easier half of the draw, meaning they cannot play Germany or defending champions Spain until the final.

They face Wales in the quarterfinals and Manchester City forward De Bruyne said: "We'll need to play at the same level as we did [against Hungary].

"We are going to try to go all the way into the final, but we need to take things one game at a time."

De Bruyne told RTBF that Wales "have some superstars" and that Chris Coleman's side "play well tactically and defensively."

He and Chelsea forward Eden Hazard were in sparkling form as Belgium recorded the biggest win of the European Championships so far, and De Bruyne added: "We created a lot of chances in the first half, but we weren't able to get the second goal.

"We said we needed to put more pressure on Hungary, and when we got the second it became much easier."

Belgium coach Marc Wilmots hailed the impact of De Bruyne, whom he had criticised after the defeat to Italy.

"I was almost playing four forwards with the 4-2-3-1 formation and the two defensive midfielders ensure we are not so open despite the obvious risk," Wilmots said.

"But I have to say, Kevin De Bruyne... every time he lost the ball he made the effort to come back, and that's what makes the side strong. When we don't have the ball we don't allow many chances."
