Bayern Munich manager Kovac has 'no job guarantee' - Rummenigge

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said there is "no job guarantee" for Niko Kovac following the 5-0 humiliation of Borussia Dortmund.

The Bavarians returned to the top of Bundesliga with victory over their nearest rivals, who have now conceded 20 goals and scored just two in their last four trips to the Allianz Arena.

Despite Dortmund sitting just a point behind in second place, Bayern remain on course for their seventh consecutive Bundesliga title, and the first for Kovac. However, question marks remain over the Croatian, following his side's elimination against Liverpool in the Champions League round of 16.

"There is no job guarantee for anyone at FC Bayern Munich," Rummenigge said. "You always have to deliver at FC Bayern Munich.

"That's how FC Bayern Munich function and you must cope with this pressure. If you can't do it, you are at the wrong club."

Speaking to German football weekly kicker, Bayern president Uli Hoeness, however, appeared to issue a job guarantee for Kovac regardless of the outcome of the season.

"It would not even be a disaster if were to win finish second," he said.

Rummenigge has confirmed he will leave his role as CEO once his contract finishes and former club captain Oliver Kahn will take over.

"The concrete plan is that Kahn will become my successor," Rummenigge said. "My contract expires in December 2021.

"I am convinced he'll be a good successor."
