Bayern Munich relieved as Thiago Alcantara's injury not serious

Bayern Munich have received a boost as Thiago Alcantara's foot injury is not a serious one, meaning "the Spain international will sit out training for a few days."

Thiago opened the scoring in Bayern's 3-1 Champions League win over Besiktas on Wednesday, before having to be replaced by Colombia international James Rodriguez just after the half hour mark.

"He felt some pain under the sole of his foot," coach Jupp Heynckes told reporters, before adding: "I don't think Thiago will be out for a long time."

Following the seventh injury of Thiago's Bayern career, the German champions breathed a sigh of relief after club doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt's scan on Thursday.

The club announced that that the ex-Barcelona midfielder is only "facing a short spell on the sidelines after stretching the tendons in the sole of his left foot" in Turkey.

Thiago also picked up a muscle injury in their previous away Champions League match against Anderlecht -- an injury which kept him out for almost three months.
