Bayern's Arjen Robben out for Champions League return leg vs. Besiktas

Arjen Robben will not feature for Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie against Besiktas on Wednesday, coach Jupp Heynckes said.

Robben, 34, did not travel to Istanbul for the return leg and came off the bench in the first leg, a 5-0 victory in Munich on Feb. 20.

"Arjen Robben could have played [against Besiktas], but I'm careful," Heynckes said at a news conference. "He has some complaints."

Robben has made 22 starts, with a further five appearances off the bench, and scored six goals for Bayern this season.

James Rodriguez, who injured a calf in the first leg and missed the last three games, and Thiago Alcantara are available, Heynckes said.

But the coach cautioned that the significant advantage does not mean that Bayern will take it easy against their opponents.

"I know from experience what is demanded from us in the Champions League," Heynckes said.

"We have a big lead, but there are always details that can be perfected. We face an absolutely top opponent. They have fans that will be fired up and will be urging their team forward. That's what makes football so special. Without the fans it would be an emotionless game."

Thomas Muller, meanwhile, praised Heynckes' impact at Bayern but said that the uncertainty over his future will not affect the club over the final two months of the season.

Heynckes, 72, was appointed as a caretaker following the dismissal of Carlo Ancelotti in October, and amid an effort by club hierarchy to extend his agreement, he said last week that nothing has been decided regarding his future.

"Of course you are faced with that [uncertainty]," Muller said at a news conference. "However, we are so focused on our current situation. ... The new Bundesliga is so far away, it does not yet play a part in our daily thinking."
