Bayern Munich's in-form winger Kingsley Coman has been ruled out for "several weeks" following ankle surgery, dealing a setback to the club's Treble hopes and the Frenchman's World Cup hopes.
Coman, 21, suffered a torn ligament in Bayern's goalless draw in the Bundesliga against Hertha Berlin at the weekend.
Coman had replaced Franck Ribery on 68 minutes and picked up the injury in a challenge with Australia international Mathew Leckie thirteen minutes later.
Following prolonged treatment on the sidelines, Coman played out the remaining minutes of the goalless stalemate as the runaway Bundesliga leaders had already used up their full complement of three substitutes.
"Kingsley fell awkwardly and injured his ankle," Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes said after the game.
Heynckes, 72, warned after the game that Coman was "in a lot of pain," before adding that "the doctor doesn't think it's too serious because the ligaments are stable."
However, Bayern confirmed on Monday that Coman had already undergone surgery to repair a rupture in a ligament above his left ankle.
L'Equipe reported that Coman would miss at least two months, putting his World Cup hopes for France in jeopardy, while Sport Bild in Germany also believe the injury could force the former Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain to miss the rest of the season.
Coman has scored seven goals and provided eight assists in 31 games this season for Bayern.
