Manuel Neuer stays behind as Bayern Munich squad head to Qatar

Bayern Munich's injured goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will miss their winter training camp in Qatar, boss Jupp Heynckes has confirmed.

The Germany No. 1 has been sidelined after undergoing an operation on his left foot and is not ready to travel with the team for their warm-weather camp in early January.

Bayern will train in Qatar between Jan. 2 and 8 and Heynckes told Kicker: "Manuel is staying here, he is not going to Qatar.

"We are not taking any risks at all, we will increase the workload on him step by step."

Heynckes added that Neuer's  recovery "is advancing well."

Neuer, 31, has fractured his foot on three separate occasions this year,

Following the latest one in September, which ruled him out until the New Year, he said the that his recovery could take at least six months.

Sven Ulreich has been playing in goal for Bayern in Neuer's absence and on Saturday saved a last-gasp penalty to help his side win 1-0 against Stuttgart.

Academy coach Tom Starke has also deputised in two games against Frankfurt and Cologne over the past week, keeping two clean sheets in 1- 0 wins.
