Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has dismissed claims Inter Milan made a bid for Arturo Vidal this summer, saying that nobody submitted an offer for the midfielder.
Vidal was strongly linked with a move to Inter all summer, but Bayern insisted he was not going anywhere, with Chelsea also reported to have been monitoring the situation.
Neither club actually tabled a bid for the 30-year-old, though, according to former Inter forward Rummenigge.
"Nobody asked us for him and there was never an official offer for him, not even this summer when the market was open," he told Mediaset. "So I cannot confirm [Inter wanted him]."
Inter still made six signings this summer, with Milan Skriniar, Borja Valero, Matias Vecino, Dalbert, Joao Cancelo and Yann Karamoh all arriving with new coach Luciano Spalletti, who joined from Roma.
They have won their first two games of the season and Steven Zhang, the son of the club's owner Zhang Jindong, says he is satisfied with the way things have gone so far this term, even suggesting that the club can challenge for the Serie A title.
"Spalletti works all day until late and I'm convinced that this could be a good season for all of us," he told Mediaset. "Let's see how things go when the league restarts and we get back to working hard and giving it our best.
"My father and all the people working for us in China are keeping a very close watch on Inter. There's a lot of passion within our group and you can see a special spirit when you have a football club. We're all pulling in the same direction and are fully immersed emotionally.
"We really do like the job we are doing with Inter. It's still too early to say, but we'll see [about winning the title] -- when you prepare well, then the results arrive."
