Bayern Munich roll to preseason opening win against Wolfratshausen

Bayern Munich prevailed comfortably in their opening preseason friendly winning 4-1 at local amateur side Wolfratshausen on Thursday.

With a host of stars still on their holidays after international action, Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti fielded an experimental squad with predominantly youth team players on display.

However, Mats Hummels, Thomas Muller and Kingsley Coman all started, while veteran goalkeeper Tom Starke came out of retirement to play in goal as all of Bayern's keepers are currently battling their way back to full fitness from various injuries.

Starke, 36, said: "I had been looking forward to taking it a little easier during this phase of the season, but it looks as though I'll have to wait another year."

Youth striker Manuel Wintzheimer, 18, opened the scoring in the fourth minute, while captain for the day Muller doubled the lead just before half-time with a first-time finish.

Cameroon talent Franck Elvina, 17, added a second-half brace after coming on at the interval, before Wolfratshausen, a fifth-tier side from the Munich suburbs, grabbed a consolation goal in the final minute when Vincenzo Potenza nodded powerfully home from a corner.

"It was a good friendly," said Muller. "In our first week of preparation it fits in nicely. It was a lot of fun and we can warm up well in such a game."

Bayern's next friendly is in Franconia on Sunday at FSV Erlangen-Bruck.
