Arturo Vidal wants Confederations Cup involvement even if preseason affected

Arturo Vidal says he wants to play for Chile in the Confederations Cup this summer even if it means missing the start of preseason training with Bayern Munich.

Chile are one of eight teams to be involved in this summer's tournament in Russia, having qualified for the first time through winning their maiden Copa America in 2015.

If Chile progress to the latter stages of the competition, held between June 17 and July 2, then Vidal would likely miss Bayern's early preparations for next season, starting in Munich on July 4.

"Of course, the trips are exhausting but I really want to take part in the Confederations Cup," Vidal told SportBild.

"Chile are playing in the tournament for the first time and it will be a milestone as we develop towards the 2018 World Cup. Everybody wants to be there, myself included."

Vidal added: "I know how I can recover and will do that after the Confederations Cup. I will have plenty of time to take it easy when I stop playing."

Vidal also said Chile teammate Alexis Sanchez, reportedly a summer transfer target for Bayern from Arsenal, is likely to make the trip to Russia.

"I also know that players like Alexis Sanchez want to play. None of our players want to miss this tournament," he said.
