Thomas Muller rues Bayern profligacy after draw at Leverkusen

Thomas Muller admitted wasteful finishing was responsible for Bayern Munich's goalless draw with Bayer Leverkusen at the Bay Arena.

The champions saw their lead at the top of the Bundesliga cut to eight points after resolute defending from Leverkusen -- particularly late in the first-half -- kept them at bay.

Muller was among those responsible, missing several opportunities himself, and the Germany striker refused to look for scapegoats.

"Our performance and attitude were good, but our use of the chances was fatal," Muller told the club's official website.

"You can't win if you don't score. We had three, four, five clear-cut chances.

"I had a really good opportunity myself but made the wrong decision, so we're annoyed at ourselves."

Coach Carlo Ancelotti took a philosophical outlook on Bayern's inability to secure the win.

"The team turned in a good display. We played with lots of intensity, we had lots of chances. But a draw like this just happens from time to time," Ancelotti said.

Leverkusen started brightly but were soon overrun and their task was made harder by the 60th minute dismissal of defender Tin Jedvaj for receiving his second yellow card.

"We knew we'd suffer a lot and that we wouldn't have much possession," coach Tayfun Korkut said.

"I'm pleased for the team and at the way we retained the point with a man down. We didn't allow many chances when we were a man down, which was crucial for our confidence."
