Lahm gives Bayern Munich fitness boost; Thiago, Vidal back in training

Bayern Munich have been handed a boost as captain Philipp Lahm overcame an injury scare and has been passed fit for Saturday's game with Schalke.

Lahm, 33, suffered a knock to his left knee and had to be taken off the training pitch on a golf cart on Monday afternoon. But Germany's 2014 World Cup winning captain walked to the changing rooms where he was examined immediately and Bayern soon announced he was fine.

"Philipp Lahm had to break off Monday's training session as a precaution," a statement read. "The skipper returned to the dressing room after sustaining a knock to the knee. However, the medical unit sounded the all-clear shortly afterwards: Lahm will be fit on time for Saturday's match."

Meanwhile midfielders Thiago Alcantara and Arturo Vidal, who both missed the weekend's narrow 2-1 win at Werder Bremen, both returned to training.

Thiago has recovered from a muscle injury picked up during the Bavarians' winter training camp in Doha in early January. The Spain international enjoyed his first full session -- 16 days ahead of their Champions League round of 16 tie against Arsenal.

Continuing his recovery from a nagging rib injury, Vidal completed the warm up before going indoors to work out alongside veterans Arjen Robben and Xabi Alonso. French winger Kingsley Coman also trained in the performance centre after making his first appearance since November as a substitute at the weekend.

Central defender Jerome Boateng is currently the only Bayern player expected to miss the Champions League first leg against Arsenal in Munich on Feb. 15.
