Arturo Vidal and Thiago Alcantara miss out for Bayern Munich vs. Bremen

Bayern Munich midfielders Arturo Vidal and Thiago Alcantara have both been ruled out of the Bundesliga champions' trip to Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Thiago only returned to light training this week after suffering a muscle injury during Bayern's winter training camp in Doha, Qatar, in early January, while Vidal was substituted on Friday after aggravating a rib injury in the 2-1 win over Freiburg.

"Vidal and Thiago aren't available," Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti said at his prematch news conference.

"But they'll be back in training next week and will be ready for next week against Schalke."

Asked about the seriousness of Vidal's rib problem, Ancelotti said: "We've decided to give him a week's rest.

"Vidal will be ready for our upcoming games and, importantly, he'll be back at 100 percent for Champions League tie against Arsenal."

France winger Kingsley Coman is yet to make a Bayern comeback since picking up a muscle injury while on international duty in November.

But Ancelotti said: "He's fit and is a good option for us. He can't start, but it would be great to give him a few minutes."

Ancelotti also confirmed that wingers Franck Ribery and Douglas Costa were both fit to travel to northern Germany.

Quizzed as to why Costa was preferred ahead of the Frenchman on Friday, Ancelotti said: "It's always difficult to leave players on the bench, especially when they are as professional as Franck."

He added: "Frank is an option for tomorrow and in good condition. But Costa is also in good order -- he's got different qualities to Ribery, but both are good for the team."

Seeking a fifth Bundesliga title on the trot, Bayern lead nearest challengers RB Leipzig by three points at the halfway stage of the season. They are looking for a league record 13th consecutive win over struggling Bremen, who languish in 15th spot just above the relegation zone.
