Lewandowski on Thomas Muller: 'He will soon rediscover his form'

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has backed teammate Thomas Muller to break out of his recent goal slump.

Muller, 27, has been a regular scorer since moving into the Bayern Munich senior team, but has seen his form decline over the last 12 months.

He scored 20 league goals in the 2015-16 season under Pep Guardiola, but only six of those came after the winter break, and he then failed to find the net his six appearances at Euro 2016.

Under current coach Carlo Ancelotti, he has scored just once in 13 Bundesliga appearances. However Lewandowski sees no reason to panic about the German international's goal output.

"You do not lose your goal [scoring] instinct. It simply does not work that way. He is just going through a phase where he is lacking a bit of luck. But he will soon rediscover his form," the Poland international told Munchner Merkur.

"Everybody expects Thomas to score at least 20 goals, but we should still be satisfied with what he has been doing. You cannot judge him solely on his goals. He is always working hard and when you do that, the goals will come eventually.

"It is important for a striker not too think about things too much. That never works. You always have to think about the next game and about scoring a goal again."
