Thiago Alcantara returns to Bayern Munich training following injury

Bayern Munich have received a boost ahead of their Champions League tie against Arsenal after midfielder Thiago Alcantara returned to training on Tuesday and took part in the team warm-up on Wednesday.

Thiago, 25, suffered a right thigh muscle injury during the German champions' winter training camp in Doha, Qatar, earlier this month.

The round-of-16 first leg against Arsenal is three weeks away on Feb. 15 in Munich.

And the Spain international midfielder began his comeback with his first outdoor individual workout, in freezing temperatures, at Bayern's Sabener Strasse training facility.

Arturo Vidal is also training individually in the performance centre as he continues his recovery from a rib injury.

Vidal was substituted in Bayern's last-gasp 2-1 win over Freiburg on Friday -- their first competitive game back following a month's winter break -- after aggravating his rib problem.

Vidal said after the match he could use "a two or three-week" break to have any chance of playing in the Champions League tie against Arsenal next month, but his fitness is being closely monitored as he carries out individual sessions indoors.

Meanwhile, Jerome Boateng is another injury doubt. The 2014 World Cup winner with Germany underwent an operation on a pectoral muscle in late December.

He spent last week in Dubai working on his recovery and is expected to miss the first game against Arsenal in the Bavarian capital.
