Bundesliga leaders RB Leipzig a new enemy for Bayern - Uli Hoeness

Shock Bundesliga leaders RB Leipzig will represent a tough challenge for Bayern Munich this season, according to newly-elected president Uli Hoeness.

Leipzig have begun the season in blistering form and are six points ahead of Bayern after Friday's 4-1 win over Freiburg. Ralph Hasenhuttl's side are being tipped to become the new Leicester and win the title, and Hoeness admits they must be taken seriously.

"Leipzig won 4-1, now we have a new enemy besides Dortmund we can attack," Hoeness said at Bayern's AGM.

"If we are honest we had to take our motivation from ourselves in the last years. It's time some new clubs appear we can challenge.

"Leipzig are a hungry, young team; Hasenhuttl is an outstanding coach, we know him from Bayern [the Austrian ended his playing career with Bayern Munich II].

"But the longer as I think about it, all the more fun I have."

Hoeness, whose first spell as Bayern Munich president ended when he was imprisoned for tax evasion, was re-elected to the role of president as the only candidate standing for the post at the Bavarian club's annual general meeting on Friday.

Bayern announced on their website that 6,986 members had voted in favour of Hoeness resuming his tenure, 108 voted against and 58 abstained.
