Robert Lewandowski ready to face BVB as Marcel Schmelzer set to return

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski resumed training on Tuesday ahead of Saturday's clash at his former club Borussia Dortmund.

Lewandowski, Bayern's top scorer, returned early from international duty with Poland after a firecracker exploded in his immediate vicinity on Sunday during the win over Romania.

Meanwhile, Jerome Boateng and Franck Ribery trained on both Monday and Tuesday as they continued their comebacks from injury.

Defender Boateng pulled out of the Germany squad after suffering a knee injury in Bayern's last Bundesliga game, against Hoffenheim.

Winger Ribery has not played since the end of September after picking up a thigh injury in training.

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and record signing Javi Martinez both trained individually, while Bayern confirmed that Arjen Robben's thigh problem is not serious, with the Netherlands skipper expected to be fit.

Meanwhile, Bild has reported that Dortmund club captain Marcel Schmelzer will return in time for the match at the Westfalenstadion.

Schmelzer, 28, missed several games for Dortmund as they struggled for form in October after suffering a muscle tear in a 1-1 draw with Hertha Berlin.

Winger Marco Reus is also reportedly set to return to the Dortmund squad for the first time since the DFB-Pokal final defeat to Bayern in May.

After 10 games this season, BVB trail Bayern by six points and could close the gap with a first Bundesliga home win against the champions since coming out on top in the title-deciding tie in April 2012.

Bayern captain Philipp Lahm warned that his side would "need a top performance" to win, telling his club's TV channel: "The players know this.

"We must be at our best to get a result there. They've shown, especially in the Champions League, that they are capable of football of the highest quality, proving this again against Real Madrid."
