Bayern Munich's Rummenigge laments international break 'interruptions'

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has termed the FIFA calendar "catastrophic" as the German champions enter their third international break already this season.

"International dates are gradually becoming critical. We've only just got into a Bundesliga rhythm and then another interruption comes along," Rummenigge told reporters after Bayern's 1-1 draw at the weekend.

German internationals haven't been at their respective clubs for around three months, taking into account a further two-week break in March and similar pauses in action at the same stage last season in September, October and November.

"FIFA would be well advised to clean up the whole international calendar at some stage," Rummenigge said.

"It's catastrophic. There's always a permanent disruption to club football."

Rummenigge, 61, also serves as the chairman of the European Club Association (ECA) and questioned the future role of international football last month.

He added: "It's not about playing fewer games, I know that it isn't possible, I'm not that naive. But, it's my wish that, at some point, this calendar is cleaned up."

League leaders Bayern return to Bundesliga action at Borussia Dortmund on Nov. 19.
