Goal scorer Arjen Robben gets 'goosebumps' in Bayern Munich return

Arjen Robben said he got the goosebumps when he heard the ovation from the Bayern Munich crowd upon making his first return to match action since last season.

Robben, 32, scored within seven minutes of his comeback from injury as Bayern moved back to the top of the Bundesliga with a comfortable 3-0 win over Hertha Berlin.

The German champions, chasing an historic fifth league title on the trot, outclassed the capital city side from the outset to maintain their 100 percent record after four games.

Franck Ribery jinked his way through the Berlin defence to open the scoring just after the quarter of an hour mark, before Thiago doubled the lead after 67 minutes.

Substitute Robben, who last appeared in a goalless draw against Dortmund in early March, then took centre stage. The Netherlands international had decent claims for a penalty, before firing one of his trademark goals on 72 minutes, cutting back inside onto his left foot for the final goal of the evening -- his 78th Bundesliga goal in 143 appearances for the Bavarians.

Robben was moved by the rapturous welcome from the Munich faithful, when he came on to replace Thomas Muller on 65 minutes.

"It was a really nice moment. It gave me goosebumps," Robben said. "I've worked so hard the last few weeks, giving everything to make a comeback. It's indescribable. I'm really happy."

Bayern made five changes from Saturday's sickness-ravaged starting lineup as skipper Philipp Lahm, David Alaba and Muller all returned after overcoming a stomach virus, while German Footballer of the Year Jerome Boateng made his first start since tearing a muscle in Germany's Euro 2016 semifinal defeat vs. France in July.

Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti stretched his winning run in charge to seven in a row in all competitions.

The Italian was happy with Bayern's display as key players enjoyed successful comebacks: "I'm very pleased. It was our best performance so far this season," he said. "Important players like Robben and Boateng returned and they both had no issues"
