Bayern Munich's Douglas Costa set to make first start against Rostov

Douglas Costa is in line to make his first start of the season for Bayern Munich against Rostov in the Champions League on Tuesday.

However, coach Carlo Ancelotti said Kingsley Coman would not be in his squad for the home game against the Russians as he continues his recovery from injury.

Costa, 25, played his first game for Bayern since the DFB-Pokal final in May when he came on as a substitute in Friday's hard-fought 2-0 win at Schalke.

And speaking at his first prematch Champions League news conference as Bayern boss, Ancelotti said: "He'll play tomorrow.

"He performed really well against Schalke for 30 minutes after his injury comeback, and maybe he'll start."

Ancelotti said he had no concerns about Franck Ribery and Costa fitting into same team, adding: "In my opinion, very good players can and must play together.

"Both are very good players, so this isn't a problem. They're both versatile players with the ability to play both on the left and the right."

Coman has been sidelined since suffering an ankle injury in a training ground challenge with Javi Martinez almost a month ago.

Ancelotti said the France international "is training especially with Saturday's Bundesliga game [against Ingolstadt] in mind. He will not be in the squad on Tuesday."

The Italian said he would not "rotate much" and would "rest some players, but didn't know which ones yet."

"Rotation is important for two reasons: to keep the players fresh and to motivate the team," he said. "I want to keep all the players involved until the end of the season."

Ancelotti also confirmed that Arjen Robben and Jerome Boateng would miss the Rostov game having only returned to team training on Sunday.
