Xabi Alonso waiting 'five or six months' to decide Bayern Munich future

Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso will decide his Bayern Munich future early next year.

Alonso, 34, has a deal with the Bavarians that expires in June 2016 when he'll be 35. Quizzed about his plans at a news conference ahead of Friday's Bundesliga match against Schalke, the 2010 World Cup winner said his concentration was solely focussed on this season.

"At the moment, I've got no idea," Alonso said. "My aim is to perform well at the start of the season and feel good.

"We'll see what happens -- in five or six months we'll know."

As the German Champions prepare for their first Bundesliga away game of the season, the Basque midfielder said he was especially looking forward to returning to the scene of his first-ever Bayern appearance in 2014.

Alonso, then 32, was signed by Pep Guardiola from Real Madrid shortly before the transfer window closed in August 2014.

It was such a shock move that the 2010 World Cup winner hadn't even trained with the team, let alone met all his teammates before travelling to Gelsenkirchen for the Bundesliga match. Thrown straight into the fray by Guardiola, Alonso delivered a virtuoso man-of-the-match performance, running the show as if he'd played for the Bavarians all his career.

"It's obviously a special game for me. It was a fantastic experience to make my Bayern debut in Schalke almost two years ago," he added.

Schalke are under pressure after a surprise defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in their opening game, but Alonso said he expected a tough game on the road.

"It's always a difficult place to play, there's a super atmosphere with passionate fans."
