Renato Sanches poised for Bayern Munich debut vs. Schalke

Renato Sanches is in line for his highly anticipated Bayern Munich debut on Friday as the German champions return to Bundesliga action with their opening away game at Schalke.

Sanches, 19, has not played since aggravating a thigh injury in training last month that he picked up while starring at Euro 2016. After recovering to full fitness, the Portugal international made the substitutes' bench in the season-opener against Werder Bremen.

But Sanches, signed in May from Benfica for €35 million plus add-ons, did not feature during the 6-0 victory.

With midfielder Arturo Vidal not action for Chile until in the early hours of Wednesday morning against Bolivia in a World Cup qualifier, Sanches could be in line for his Bayern debut.

Douglas Costa has also suffered with a thigh problem since converting Bayern's winning penalty in the German Cup final penalty shootout victory over Borussia Dortmund in May.

But Costa told kicker that he has a return against Schalke in his sights. He said: "I've continually increased my workload and am on the home stretch. I think I'll be back very shortly.

Only 10 players took part in training on Monday with understudy goalkeepers Sven Ulreich and Tom Starke having to play outfield in some of the drills.

Bayern's Germany internationals are expected to return to training on Tuesday, while Jerome Boateng, Arjen Robben, Holger Badstuber and Kingsley Coman all continue individual fitness work in their respective comeback bids.
