Manuel Neuer: Bayern Munich are out for 'total success' this season

Manuel Neuer has said Bayern Munich are aiming for "total success" ahead of their Champions League semifinal second leg against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

Bayern suffered a 1-0 first-leg defeat at the Vicente Calderon last week and could face a third consecutive semifinal exit at the hands of Spanish opposition after being eliminated by Barcelona and Real Madrid in recent years.

Neuer, however, is confident his side can overturn the deficit at the Allianz Arena as they bid to secure the Treble this season, with the Bundesliga title seemingly imminent and a DFB Pokal final against Borussia Dortmund to come on May 21.

"We are all well prepared, we are aware of the starting position, and we know that we have 90 minutes to score one goal," Neuer told a prematch news conference. "We've got plenty of time, and we are absolutely motivated. We've got the chance to reach the final in a home match, and we will give it our all.

"We have no fear. Our fans will support us, the turf speeds up the pace, we're going to have more possession. We are always able to score, even against teams that are strong in defence."

With Guardiola set to join Manchester City in the summer, Tuesday's game represents his last Champions League tie for Bayern at the Allianz Arena.

Neuer said he hopes to "give a present" to the outgoing coach, while adding of the club's goals for the coming weeks: "We just want total success."

This sentiment was echoed by Bayern defender Javi Martinez, who made it clear that he wants to win all three trophies this season.

"We are focused and want to win the Treble," he said. "But of course, Atletico have an advantage and defend very well. But I think we have one of the best attacking units in Europe. We'll play a very intense match from the first minute."

Some have suggested that Guardiola's spell at Bayern will not be considered a success unless he wins the Champions League.

Juan Bernat admits a side like Bayern should always be aiming to win such a competition and he is hopeful this could be their year.

"Guardiola has done great work. This is a huge club, where the demand is you win all the trophies," he told AS. "It's true the Champions League is longed for here, but it is not easy to win it. Sometimes you need that stroke of luck. We hope we get it on Tuesday."

However, Bernat accepts it will be a real challenge coming up against an Atletico side that are likely to be looking to defend their lead.

"It is what we all think. But they also will have in mind that they can make it very difficult for us if they score," he said. "Maybe that means they will come out and press us high up, as they did in the first minutes at the Calderon. But in general we expect them to sit deep."
