Bayern Munich CEO Rummenigge: UCL seedings better than 'fate' of draw

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has called for a seeding structure to replace the open draw for the knockout stages of Champions League, saying: "I've had enough of fate."

Speaking after his club's thrilling 4-2 defeat of Juventus after extra time in Munich, Rummenigge said he did not believe it was right that two clubs of such stature had met in the round of 16.

Italian champions Juve, who lost last year's final to Barcelona, went out 6-4 on aggregate to Bayern and Rummenigge told reporters: "Eventually, UEFA have to think about if they want to let fate take its course or consider something like seeding.

"We talk a lot about image, about money, about merits. Somewhere along the line it has to be done -- it's just common practice in tennis or other sports."

When the draw for the Champions League quarterfinals is made on Friday, Bayern could face Barcelona or Paris Saint-Germain as well as domestic rivals Wolfsburg.

Rummenigge said: "All of us depend on fate. But I have to openly say that there comes a time when I've had enough of fate.

"During this round of 16 I saw matches I nearly switched off, while today a team like Juve, last year's finalists, are eliminated."
