Bayern Munich defender Medhi Benatia resumes full training

Medhi Benatia has resumed Bayern Munich team training and could return to the squad ahead of the Champions League clash with Juventus next week.

Bayern are currently without centre-backs Jerome Boateng, Holger Badstuber and Javi Martinez, who have all sustained injuries in recent weeks.

New signing Serdar Tasci, who joined Bayern on loan from Spartak Moscow following the injuries to Boateng and Martinez, has yet to make his debut for Munich, and Pep Guardiola used David Alaba and Joshua Kimmich in central defence in Sunday's 3-1 win at Augsburg.

On Monday, however, the coach was handed an injury boost when Benatia, who has played in only 21 of a possible 54 league games since joining from Roma in 2014, resumed team training.

The 28-year-old Morocco international last featured in early December, and has since been ruled out with a muscular injury.

Franck Ribery and Mario Gotze also completed the full training session as they work on regaining full fitness.

Ribery, who has made just two appearances for Bayern since March, was part of the squad at Augsburg but remained an unused substitute after two months out with a thigh injury. Gotze, meanwhile, has been out with a groin injury since October.

The players will be "reintroduced to the competitive fray step by step," the club said on their official website.
