Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng suffers groin injury

Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng is set for a "lengthy" absence after he suffered a groin injury in Friday's 2-1 victory at Hamburg, the club has said.

Boateng was replaced by Javi Martinez 56 minutes into Bayern's first game after the winter break and the club announced on Saturday that, following an MRI scan, he had injured his left adductor muscle.

A statement on the club's Twitter account read: "Jerome Boateng is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a groin injury in Hamburg."

However, there was better news for Bayern regarding Juan Bernat.

The Spanish left-back resumed full training on Saturday after recovering from a groin problem.

Bernat last featured for Bayern in the 2-0 Champions League defeat to Arsenal on October.
