Thomas Muller hints new Bayern Munich contract is close

Thomas Muller is close to signing a new contract at Bayern Munich, but the Germany international said on Wednesday that the paperwork is still to be completed.

Muller, 26, is under contract at Bayern until 2019, but reports in recent weeks have indicated that he is set to prolong his stay on improvement terms, in turn warding off interest from Premier League clubs.

This week, it was reported that Chelsea hope to land Muller, who has already equalled his season best of 13 goals only 14 matches into the Bundesliga season.

"There is a lot of indication for it and not a lot against it," Muller said when asked about the new Bayern contract during a PR event on Wednesday, adding that he could not give "a new water-level report".

On Thursday, kicker reported that club and player have a verbal agreement on a contract until 2021, and only the paperwork still needs to be done.

Meanwhile, Franck Ribery has resumed training just under nine months after suffering an ankle injury in Champions League in mid-March.

"It's a great day for me, it's very emotional," Ribery said on the club's official website.

"It's been the first injury that's kept me sidelined for so long, a tough time. But that's football, that's life. It's important to keep your head up and work hard. Now I'm back with the team, a good feeling!"

Ribery, 32, said he hopes to return to the matchday squad before the winter break, and added that "it was fun" being back with the squad.
