Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller breaks record with 50th UCL win

Thomas Muller became the youngest player to have played in 50 Champions League victories as Bayern Munich eased past Olympiakos on Tuesday.

Muller -- at 26 years, two months and 11 days old -- reached the milestone over one year younger than Lionel Messi and nearly two years younger than Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Germany international, who made his Champions League debut in March 2009, contributed one goal in Tuesday's 4-0 victory at home to Olympiakos.

"It means that I've played with a very good team in the past five years," Muller, who needed only 75 games to reach the half-century, said on fcb.tv.

Club captain Philipp Lahm joked in kicker: "He owes us a round of drinks, because we played our part in it."

Muller replied: "If we were to buy a round of drinks every time a Bayern player breaks a record, we'd rarely be sober."

The victory ensured Bayern reached the knockout round as Group F winners, but there was one sour note for the German champions as Holger Badstuber was sent off for a professional foul on Brown Ideye early in the second half.

Bayern sporting executive Matthias Sammer said referee Jonas Eriksson had made a poor decision.

"I did not see a clear foul," Sammer said. "He's a bit too late, and then [Ideye] falls to the floor. I can't understand it. I wouldn't have awarded a foul. He milked it, and you should not fall into trap."

Bayern boss Pep Guardiola said the decision to send off Badstuber, who was making his first start since April after recovering from injury, might have been costly "against a big team" but did not criticise Eriksson.

"That a decision for the referee," he said.
