Bayern Munich star David Alaba could miss Olympiakos clash

David Alaba is an injury doubt for Bayern Munich's meeting with Olympiakos on Tuesday, while Mario Gotze is hoping to return after the winter break.

Austria international Alaba picked up a minor ankle injury in the 3-1 win at Schalke on Saturday after a late challenge from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is on a season-long loan from Bayern.

The left-back has so far played in all 19 competitive matches for Bayern this season but could sit out Tuesday's Champions League meeting with Olympiakos as the Bundesliga champions seek to secure top spot in Group F.

A statement on the club's official website said his availability for Tuesday's game at the Allianz Arena "depends on the healing process in the next days."

Gotze, meanwhile, is looking to return to action in January after picking up a thigh injury in Germany's away defeat to Ireland last month.

"The healing process is going very, very well," Gotze said during a PR event on Sunday. "Everything's going according to plan."

Gotze, who is under contract at Bayer until 2017, added: "I hope I'll be fully fit in time for mid-season training and can take up the squad programme."
