Guardiola: Long Bayern stay would be boring; Wenger at Arsenal is different

Pep Guardiola remained tight-lipped on his Bayern Munich near future ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash with Arsenal, saying that staying at one club for too long would be boring.

The Catalan coach has entered the final year of his contract at Bayern, where he has won back-to-back Bundesliga titles, one DFB-Pokal, and twice made it to the Champions League semifinals.

Bayern hope to convince the 44-year-old to sign a new deal at the Allianz Arena, and, on Monday morning, the club's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said they were fairly optimistic of keeping Guardiola.

"There are many pro-Bayern arguments on the table, but probably there are other good-looking brides [elsewhere] as well,"Rummenigge, and announced talks before the end of 2015. "We are quite optimistic that at the end of the day he'll stay in Munich."

But confronted with Rummenigge's statement during his pregame news conference ahead of the match with Arsenal, Guardiola refused to commit his future to the German champions.

"The club knows everything about my...," he told reporters in London, and fell short of a statement. "We are here to play [in the] Champions League."

When asked about Arsene Wenger's 19-year career at Arsenal, Guardiola -- who has been linked with the Manchester City and England managerial roles -- said that he could not imagine staying at a club for that long.

"I would lack the energy. I also think that the people would be bored with the coach after such a long time," he said. "It's different with Wenger. He's more than a coach -- he's also a manager, a sporting director, and has changed the club."

Arsenal host Bayern on Tuesday in the third Group F match. The Bavarians have a 100 percent European record to go with a perfect domestic start of winning their first nine league wins in a row -- a new Bundesliga record -- while Arsenal have suffered two consecutive Group F defeats.
