Bayern Munich have not won the title after Dortmund thrashing - Sammer

Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer has dismissed suggestions that Sunday's 5-1 win over Borussia Dortmund means that they have all but secured another Bundesliga title.

Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski both scored twice at the Allianz Arena as Bayern levelled their own record of eight straight league wins to start the season and opened up a seven-point lead over the second-placed visitors.

The defending champions had already beaten Wolfsburg, another potential title rival, by the same scoreline last month.

However, Sammer stressed that the Bundesliga was a "marathon" played out over 34 matches.

"There are wonderful videos of marathon runners who celebrated too soon before the finish," Sammer told reporters after the game. "You can imagine for yourselves what happens next."

Sammer stated in preseason that the thought of being crowned German champions for an unprecedented fourth time in a row would be a "huge motivation" for Bayern's players.

After watching them sweep aside his former club, he promised that the Bavarian giants would not be easing off any time soon.

"Don't think that we're going to let up for a milimetre or a second," Sammer told Bild. "What that means for the league, others can decide."

While many observers will feel there will be no stopping his team, Bayern coach Pep Guardiola also sought to play down the significance of condemning Dortmund to their first loss of the season.

"We won 5-1 but made a lot of mistakes which we need to correct," the Spaniard said. "We're happy because we beat one of the best teams in Europe.

"No one has won the German title today. We have to keep our feet on the ground."
