Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski: Scoring five goals 'like a dream'

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski says that scoring five goals in nine minutes in the 5-1 win over Wolfsburg felt like a dream.

Lewandowski, 27, became the first Bundesliga substitute to score more than three goals after coming off the bench at half-time on Tuesday night, with former Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes claiming the Poland star is the "best central attacker in the world" right now after his performance.

"Everything went so quickly that it's hard [to realise the significance]," he said in quotes reported by L'Equipe. "Every time I touched the ball, I scored. It was like a dream.

"With every goal I scored, I wanted to score another. I didn't want to stop. It was crucial not to think about it but to remain focused on the match."

Lewandowski finished one short of the all-time Bundesliga record of six goals scored by Cologne's Dieter Muller in 1977, but admitted he had not been 100 percent fit having missed Bayern's match at Darmstadt last weekend.

"I didn't need instructions -- I knew what I had to do," he added. "Of course I always want to start, to score and to win. But in the past few days, I hurt my ankle and I wasn't at 100 percent."

In 2013, Lewandowski became the first player to score four goals in a Champions League semifinal, when he single-handedly secured Borussia Dortmund's passage to the Wembley final in the 4-1 first leg win against Real Madrid.

But the striker says that Tuesday night was even more special.

"That evening in the Champions League was also sensational but five goals in such a short space of time is perhaps even a little stronger," he said, while also vowing "to stay humble" and "focused" in the upcoming weeks.

Lewandowski joined Bayern on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2014, and put pen to paper on a five-year deal.

"This evening was a certainly a highlight of his career," former Bayern coach Heynckes told kicker. "He's an absolute world-class player, the best central attacker in the world right now, and one of the best five attacking players."
