Pep Guardiola shouts at Nigel De Jong after tackle injures Joshua Kimmich

Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola acknowledged he was upset at AC Milan's Nigel De Jong for a foul that injured Joshua Kimmich in Tuesday's Audi Cup game.

Kimmich had to be replaced 20 minutes into the game after a tackle from De Jong, who was not booked on the play.

But there were fireworks at half-time when Guardiola and De Jong were involved in a shouting match in the tunnel.

"I was sad for Joshua Kimmich," Guardiola said about his outburst after his side came away with a 3-0 victory. "He can't play in the next game tomorrow.

"He is a top player on my team and one of the best German players of the next decade."

Kimmich signed a five-year deal with Bayern this summer after making a €7 million move from RB Leipzig.

David Alaba came on to replace Kimmich and said afterward that De Jong deserved a yellow card for the tackle

"The challenge against Kimmich should have been punished more severely," he said on ZDF televsion. "The ball was clearly gone. Nigel De Jong rushed fully through."

AC Milan coach Sinisa Mihajlovic said he didn't see the tackle but criticised Guardiola for having words with his player.

"Football isn't dancing and fouls are part of the sport," he said. "This is also why games like this cannot be called friendlies.

"In any case, it was one-way traffic because of how good our opponents were. They are solid and road-tested, while we didn't put in any intensity.

"We've got to improve and we are working to improve."
