Bayern Munich's Dante returns to training after muscle injury

Bayern Munich defender Dante has returned to training after recovering from a muscle injury.

Dante, 31, suffered the injury while playing beach football during the summer.

The 31-year-old former Brazil international, who last played for the national team in their 7-1 World Cup semifinal defeat to Germany, trained with the squad for 45 minutes.

He then moved to another pitch for an individual session with fitness coach Andreas Kornmayer, Bayern's official website reported.

Dante is unlikely to take part in the Audi Cup, being played at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Tuesday and Wednesday, but could be in contention when Bayern travel to Nottingen in the DFB-Pokal on Sunday.

Meanwhile, fellow defender Holger Badstuber, who suffered a muscle injury in April, is expected to be back in contention by late August.

Spaniard Javi Martinez, another option at centre-back, has been sidelined with knee problems since Bayern's tour of China in mid-July.

That means coach Pep Guardiola currently has only two available specialist centre-backs in Jerome Boateng and Mehdi Benatia.
