Bayern Munich's Mario Gotze plans extra training to rediscover form

Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze is planning to do individual extra training to rediscover his form after a difficult season.

Gotze endured a difficult season at Bayern after scoring the winning goal for Germany in the 2014 World Cup final, and was voted the biggest disappointment of the season by his fellow Bundesliga professionals.

His agent said at the weekend that he needed more support from Bayern, who have previously refused to rule out a summer sale.

Journalist Christian Falk reported in Sport Bild on Wednesday that Manchester United have expressed an interest in taking Gotze, 23, as well as Bastian Schweinsteiger, 30, amid talks with Bayern over winger Angel Di Maria.

Gotze, though, is currently focused on recovering his best form ahead of the new campaign and has visited Cologne's sport university ahead of preseason to undergo diagnostic tests.

"The visit to the sport university was very interesting to me to take a closer look at the science of sports," Gotze told Bild. "I wanted to get a complete status on my body and my performance."

The former Borussia Dortmund star said he is ready to do individual extra training in the future "to help the team during a long season," adding: "I always want to reach the maximum and this can help me to bring out a few percent extra."

Bild reports that the tests came up with strong and satisfactory results but also highlighted the areas in which he can improve.

Gotze has already discussed the results with Bayern fitness coach Holger Broich, who will set up an individual programme for him to do in addition to the regular team training.

The player is currently spending the final days of his holidays in Los Angeles, where he is already training to get in shape for the start of Bayern team training on Saturday.
