Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski has eyes on Bundesliga scorer prize

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has said he hopes to retain the Torjagerkanone trophy for the Bundesliga's top scorer, despite needing four goals in two matches to overhaul Frankfurt's Alexander Meier.

Meier, who has been out of action since early April because of a knee injury, has 19 league goals this season.

This has opened the door for Poland international Lewandowski to retain the crown he won thanks to his 20 goals for Borussia Dortmund last season.

The 26-year-old currently has 16, the same tally as Wolfsburg's Bas Dost, but has been without a goal since his brace against Eintracht Frankfurt in mid-April. However, he was on the mark in the Champions League home win over Barcelona.

With games at Freiburg and against Mainz still to play, the Poland captain told kicker he still had his sights on topping the scoring charts. "That's not impossible," he said.

Meanwhile, Bayern midfielder Sebastian Rode has vowed that the German champions will give everything at Freiburg this weekend.

The hosts are battling to avoid relegation, and Rode told kicker: "We have to give it our all, especially for the other clubs battling in the bottom half of the standings. The other teams can bank on us."
