Pepe Reina banned for two matches after Bayern Munich red card

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Pepe Reina has been handed a two-match ban following his red card against FC Augsburg.

Reina, 32, was dismissed after just 13 minutes of Bayern's 1-0 loss against Augsburg last Saturday, after he brought down Raul Bobadilla in the penalty area.

While Paul Verhaegh missed the opportunity to beat Reina's replacement Manuel Neuer from the spot, Bobadilla scored in the second half to inflict a third defeat in a row in all competitions.

Reina has subsequently been banned by the DFB, whose rules stipulate that a player should receive a minimum suspension of two games for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

However, according to rules dating back over a decade, the ban is reduced by one match if the opposing team scores from the penalty -- or free kick -- that resulted from the foul.

His absence could mean Reina, whose contract at the Allianz Arena expires in 2017, has played his last game for Bayern, with reports linking him with a move to Napoli.

In March, Reina told kicker: "I have another two years on my contract, but time tell. We will see whether there will be offers from other clubs. Of course I would prefer to play -- but right now my future is with Bayern Munich."
